      Courier - Lab Outreach - Lorain Hospital

      This is a PRN "As Needed" Position

      Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

      Under the general supervision of the Mgr, Lab Outreach, the incumbent will perform as the site agent to accurately and efficiently process, expedite, and distribute merchandise, mail, specimens, and/or equipment to internal or external customers, and provide cash carrier services. The incumbent will be an advocate for the efficient use of mailing services and will train staff in departments as needed.

      Essential Job Functions

      • Inbound mail agent including, but not limited to, picks up mail from the local post office as required by site supply chain processes; sorts the mail at the identified process frequency; and maintains a concise log to record daily calls and deliveries.
      • Outbound mail agent including, but not limited to, assisting end users with mailing/shipping needs; sort, weight, and post outgoing mail; makes necessary special deliveries as assigned; handles certified mail making sure all forms are filled out appropriately.
      • Mail Distribution including, but not limited to, delivery of supplies, instruments, specimens, linen, films, records, equipment, and mail for departments as required; and delivery of bulk mail to local post office.
      • Coordinates mailing/shipping supplies including postage.
      • Collects cashier bags from various locations and delivers cashier bags to either the hospital cashier or stores in secured area for delivery to cashier when available.
      • Adheres to OSHA and DHEC regulations regarding transporting specimens.
      • Follows established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environment, and infection control standards.
      • Safe driving practices including, but not limited to, observes all state traffic laws, maintains vehicle in a clean and safe operating condition.
      • Customer Service Focused including, but not limited to carries out principles of positive guest relations by maintaining good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with all guests, coworkers, and clinicians; presents a courteous attitude when responding to assistance request; and works as a team player.
      • At the direction of Supervisor/Manager/Director, assists and supports other departments when needed.
      • Other related duties as assigned.

      Licensing/Certification

      Valid driver’s license with clean driving record and proof of insurance (required) – Ohio BMV

      Education

      High School Diploma or GED (required)

      Work Experience

      Previous mailroom or courier experience (preferred)

      Patient Population

      Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.

      Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.

      Working Conditions

      Required to car travel to off-site locations, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

      Prolonged periods of working alone.
