- Follows the assigned route for pick-ups and deliveries with appropriate adjustments made for STATS or other special circumstances.
- Ensures delivery of samples and supplies occurs on a timely basis.
- Makes suggestions for route modification(s) in the interest of efficiency and best use of resources.
- Effectively uses his/her resources (including Soft Express software and PDA device) to organize and document courier activities throughout schedule shift(s).
- Clearly communicates to manager (or designee) deviations in assigned daily route tasks.
- Remains familiar with all routes (as directed by Laboratory Leadership).
- Adheres to the safe delivery and transport of dangerous goods.
- Maintains sample temperature (room temperature, refrigeration, frozen temperature) during transport and delivery of sample(s) to the lab.
- Understands and follows the Courier Spill Containment and Clean-up procedure when indicated.
- Picks up, transports, and delivers packages using discernment and care to protect the contents and privacy of the packages during the delivery process.
- Uses best judgment in transporting packages to the appropriately labeled recipients.
- Seeks help of peers, Customer Service, and Warehouse staff in situations where intended recipient is not clear.
- Understands the Retrieval process for provider mail and performs task as appropriate.
- Conducts business as a courteous and professional representative of Holland Hospital; including professional personal appearance and timely and accurate communication with internal and external customers.
- Actively participates in feedback opportunities including(but not limited to): process improvement requests, peer inquiries, and quarterly staff meetings.
- Willingly accepts additional responsibilities and/or projects as assigned by Laboratory Leadership.
- Maintains a safe driving record.
- Ensures that the Holland Hospital vehicles are kept neat and orderly (interior and exterior).
- Maintains vehicle gas levels above 3/4 of a tank at the end of each shift.
- Consistently aware of vehicle condition and maintenance needs in all seasons. Works with manager (or designee) to alert to routine and episodic maintenance needs.
- Assists in the transport of vehicles for maintenance as requested.

The Courier is responsible for the safe, timely, and accurate delivery of US and interdepartmental mail, laboratory specimens, diagnostic reports, radiology films, supplies and other items as directed. Pick-ups and deliveries are made following the designated route(s) while complying with policies and procedures for the safe and appropriate handling of all items. Responsible for the general care and maintenance of all courier vehicles. Expected to conduct themselves as a professional and courteous representative of Holland Hospital while carrying out these duties.NOTE: This position involves FREQUENT: Lifting and carrying of items weighing 40-50 lbs. / Pushing and pulling of items weighing 50-100 lbs.
Job Type: VSP (16 hours every two weeks)
Shift Length: varied days 3pm-9:30pm
Weekend Frequency: occasional weekends
Wage Range: $14.25 - $18.20
Education/Certification Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
Valid Michigan Drivers License with no restrictions and no more than one traffic violation in the last three years required
Familiarity with Holland / Zeeland area preferred
