- FLSA Exempt, and will be paid a salary regardless of hours worked per week.
- A Grade 316 with an annual salary between $57,241.08 - $85,861.88.
- A $2,000 hiring bonus is available to the successful candidate, if they hold a Tier 3 or Tier 4 certification.
- The City of Glendale observes 10.5 holidays per year, and full-time employees are also granted an additional 12 hours of holiday special leave to celebrate their cultural or religious holidays throughout the calendar year.
- Vacation leave accrues at:
- 5.33 hours per pay period (138 hours/17.25* days per year)
- Increases to 6.12 hours after 5 years
- Then caps out at 7.6 hours after 10 years of service.
- Sick leave accrues at 4.4 hours per pay period (114 hours/14.25 days* per year).
- The current contribution rate is 12.27%.
- Contributions are mandatory, and are collected each pay period.
- Provides simultaneous/consecutive interpretation in a variety of settings.
- Translates written documents, including existing court forms and other court-related documents and materials as assigned.
- Schedules other language interpreters on an as needed basis.
- Maintains current statistical information related to interpreter usage as directed for decision making purposes and the court's annual report.
- Maintains the court's Language Access Plan, making changes and updates as needed.
- Provides sight translation of documents as required during court-related events.
- Performs data entry functions including case management updating.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- The Spanish language with demonstrated proficiency in proper regional and idiomatic usages
- City Code, Arizona court system, Arizona Revised Statutes, Arizona Rules of Civil and Criminal Procedures, and legal terminology
- AJACS court case management system
- Simultaneous/consecutive interpretation, Literal interpretation and translation
- Demonstrates proficiency in all three modes of interpretation: simultaneous, consecutive and sight translation
- Use of personal computer, MS Office products and court-specific software and computer systems
- Effective interpersonal relations
- Word-processing and spreadsheets to create letters, forms, brochures, social media changes, and reports
- Mathematics including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and percentages
- Make independent decisions following established procedures, manuals, and codes
- Follow written and oral instructions
- Accurately perform simultaneous translation of English into Spanish and Spanish into English during court proceedings
- Read, understand, and accurately complete legal forms and documents
- Interpret and follow complex rules, regulations and procedures
- Apply legal terminology pertinent to court activities and procedures
- Maintain excellent customer service skills, adapt to changing work situations, and remain objective in dealing with irate, emotional, and sometimes difficult human interactions
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Establish effective working relationships with City staff and the general public
- Operate office equipment including personal computer, copier, fax and courtroom tape recorders
- Work varied hours utilizing flex scheduling
- Provide simultaneous/consecutive interpretation of testimony, questions, and responses during legal proceedings
- Provide Spanish translation of existing court forms and other court-related documents, materials, phone messaging
- For this position an individual accepting an offer of employment must obtain a Tier 3 or Tier 4 level certification through the Arizona Supreme Court Interpreter Credentialing Program within 24 months of hire.

About Us:The City of Glendale is the Judicial Branch of the Glendale City Government and also part of the Arizona Judicial System. The Glendale City Court adjudicates criminal misdemeanors, City Code violations, and certain juvenile offenses committed to the City of Glendale. In cases of domestic violence and harassment, the Court issues protective orders. The Court has the authority to issue search warrant for misdemeanors and felonies. The Role: The Court Interpreter provides simultaneous and consecutive Spanish and English interpretation and translation services of court proceedings for Spanish-speaking defendants.
The ideal candidate for the role will have two years of experience providing English to Spanish simultaneous/consecutive interpretation in a variety of court settings and possess a Tier 3 or Tier 4 certification through the Arizona Supreme Court Interpreter Credentialing Program.
