      Scope of Responsibilities : The CP Mechanical Asset Fabrication Specialist position performs troubleshooting, repairs, preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, and prescribed alterations to over 7,000 assets, most of which are unique to the water reclamation industry. These mechanical assets span three reclamation facilities, thirty-six pump stations, and multiple gate and attenuation structures. It is the CP Mechanical Asset Fabrication Specialist’s responsibility to ensure all critical mechanical assets are functional when needed to ensure the complete functionality of the collection and treatment processes as a whole.

      Fabricate new parts and other components needed to repair LRWRA equipment and other assets. Use shielded metal arc (SMAW), metal inert gas (MIG), and tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding in the fabrication and repair of LRWRA assets. Use machining equipment to repair cylindrical shafts, fabricate shaft sleeves, and to make repairs on LRWRA equipment. Perform confined space entries as needed to repair LRWRA equipment. It is the responsibility of all Mechanical personnel to maintain a clean, well-organized, and safe shop/work area for the use of all Mechanical Personnel.

      • Must be able to work as part of a team positively and professionally.
      • Maintain a positive work environment that aligns with the core values of LRWRA.
      • Preventive maintenance including inspection and lubrication of mechanical assets at prescribed intervals as directed by the manufacturer’s specifications.
      • Performs major and minor maintenance and repairs on equipment, including but not limited to centrifugal and vertical turbine pumps up to 400 horsepower, plunger pumps, progressive cavity pumps, rotary lobe pumps, bar screens, circular clarifiers, flight and chain clarifiers, compressors, blowers, mobile generators and pumps, piping, valves, sluice gates, and other LRWRA equipment.
      • Keeps accurate and detailed records of all work performed so that it can be entered into the asset management system.
      • Assists other technical disciplines and departments as required.
      • Document, report, and proactively resolve any point of future failure that is discovered while performing routine maintenance activities.
      • Cleans tools and equipment and returns to proper area.
      • Keeps work areas (including shop, storage areas, and/or work locations) clean, well-organized, and safe for yourself and all others in the area.
      • Completes required detailed feedback on work orders so information can be used for asset history, proper depreciation, and other accounting functions.
      • Fabricates parts as needed with shop equipment/machinery.
      • Follows plans, drawings, designs, etc.
      • Performs metal fabrication tasks including aluminum welding, stainless steel welding, mild steel welding, and fitting including pipe fitting. These tasks may also include the use of a metal lathe and milling machine.
      • Follows established work procedures and practices and provides ideas and feedback to improve established work procedures and practices.
      • Follows safety practices and guidelines at all times, including wearing proper personal protective/safety equipment due to possible exposure to hazardous chemicals, flammable liquids, biological hazards, toxic/flammable compressed gases and confined spaces.
      • Reports unsafe or hazardous conditions immediately.
      • Undertakes any reasonable request within capabilities that is for the good of the community and LRW.
      Education
      • High school graduate or equivalent required.
      • Machinist/Welding/Fabrication vocational school preferred but is not a condition of employment.

      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
      • Working knowledge of pumps, gear drives, hand tools (powered and nonpowered), and related equipment.
      • Knowledge of welding techniques and the different types of alloys (e.g., stainless steel, aluminum, mild steel, etc.)
      • Ability to metal fabrication tasks as required.
      • Ability to understand design plans/drawings.
      • Ability to lift and carry tools and equipment.
      • Ability to operate a company vehicle and rolling equipment.
      • Ability to contribute and participate in a team-oriented work environment.
      • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Arkansas driver’s license.
      • Ability to obtain an Arkansas Class I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators License within one year.

      This position has been evaluated as to whether a momentary lapse of attention may result in grave and immediate danger to the employee, coworkers, or the public.       Experience & Training
      MUST HAVE TO START AT THIS LEVEL
      Some general mechanical, metal fabrication, and machining experience.

      Knowledge of accepted safety practices concerning welding, machining, and fabrication in general.

      Must pass in-house welding test prior to employment. (SMAW in flat position on stainless steel with 308 electrodes.)

      Must demonstrate the proper setting of regulators, proper ignition, and setting of an Oxy/Acetylene cutting torch prior to employment.

      Read, write, and work simple arithmetic at the high school/GED level graduate.

      Basic verbal and written communication skills at the high school/GED graduate level.









      Minimum 2 years as Mechanic/ Fabrication Specialist I and has attained Step 3.

      Complete seal training class or equivalent in-house training.

      Complete bearing training class or equivalent in-house training.

      Complete pumps training class or equivalent in-house training.

      Must be able to rebuild a non-submersible pump successfully before Mechanic/Fabrication Specialist II can be attained.

      Basic boom truck - onsite training by outside instructor paid by LRWRA.

      Manlift Equipment – onsite training by outside instructor paid for by LRWRA.

      Forklift – onsite training by LRWRA

      Must be able to maintain requirements of Mechanical Asset/Fabrication Specialist I.






      Minimum 2 years as Mechanic/Fabrication Specialist II and has attained Step 3.

      Must be able to rebuild a submersible pump successfully including seal installation before attaining SR Mechanic/Fabrication Specialist.

      Must be able to maintain requirements of Mechanical Asset/Fabrication Specialist I & II.

      Working Knowledge
      MUST COMPLETE ALL REQUIREMENTS OF THE PRIOR LEVEL BEFORE ADVANCING TO THE NEXT LEVEL.
      Basic Practical Extensive
      General Knowledge of welding, and fabrication.

      General knowledge of metal fabrication and machinist tools, devices, and terms.

      General knowledge of the use of precision measuring tools, such as calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators.

      Thorough knowledge of pump rebuilds, blowers, sluice gate valve actuators, bar screens, grit removal equipment and any and all other plant process equipment.

      Must be capable of completing basic tasks on the lathe and mill.


      Must be capable of milling and broaching exact keyways.

      Must be proficient in aluminum metal inert gas welding (MIG).

      Must be proficient in welding cast iron.

      Must learn basic tungsten inert gas welding (TIG) techniques.
      Pass in-house Mechanic/Fabrication Specialist II exam.


      Thorough knowledge of all mechanical equipment.

      Must be able to machine parts on the mill and lathe to exacting standards.

      Must be proficient in welding mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum with tungsten inert gas welding (TIG).
      Pass in-house Mechanic Fabrication Specialist Sr. exam.
      Must have a thorough knowledge of laser motor alignment equipment.
      Must have a thorough knowledge of LRWRA thermal imaging equipment and how to use to use it in trouble shooting equipment.
      Must have a thorough knowledge of LRWRA vibration analysis equipment and how to use it in the trouble shooting of equipment.

      Maintain and repair electrically actuated valves and gates which include modulating control valves and gates.

      Be proficient in overhead crane operation.

      Direct other mechanics and personnel as required for all mechanical-related work.

      Plan all work, generate material list, and coordinate with other divisions as required.

      Work on centrifugal blowers and rotary lobes.

      Work on boiler auxiliary components.

      Adjust and troubleshoot mechanical components of gas compression skid.

      Repair odor control system equipment.
