      Become an integral part of B.C.'s legal service

      The position resides within the Justice and Safety Programs Unit, Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, and reports to the Manager, Victim Safety Unit (VSU). The position provides service to victims of crime or protected parties who have significant safety concerns.

      The province-wide Victim Safety Unit provides timely, accurate notification to victims of crime about an offender’s movements through the courts and provincial correctional system to increase a victim’s level of information, safety, and security. Caseworkers assess and refer victims to local support services and provide immediate crisis intervention over the telephone as required. The VSU also represents victims on the provincial High Risk Recognizance Advisory Committee, and administers the Victim Travel Fund to support victims and families to attend trials and other criminal justice proceedings. VSU works closely with local, provincial, and federal victim service programs and justice system partners to ensure that victims are aware of and have access to the range of support services that will enhance their safety.

      Job Requirements:

      • University Degree in Social Sciences (i.e. Social Science, Criminology, Psychology, Social Work) and a minimum of two years providing direct services to victims of crime and/or vulnerable people, or Equivalent:
      • Diploma or Certificate in Social Sciences (as above) plus four years` experience providing direct services to victims of crime and/or vulnerable people; or
      • High School Diploma and six years` experience providing direct services to victims of crime and/or vulnerable people.
      • Experience working with justice system personnel (Crown Counsel, police, probation), and social service or health organizations; and
      • Experience in collaborating and coordinating services for clients with governments and/or other organizations to support victims of crime and vulnerable people.

      Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 4 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
