- Understands Events of Default, legal rights and remedies, and process
- Must be familiar with the terms and provisions of a Construction Loan Agreement (“CLA”) and be able to make a quick transition to understanding the client's proprietary CLA and other loan documents
- Able to work remotely and independently in an eXicient manner
- Will be expected to attend Company meetings when scheduled, typically once per week remotely
- Site inspections: Ability to assess the feasibility of a site prior to loan commitment;and accurately report conditions of projects that are under construction or completed
- Must be familiar with the terms and provisions of a Construction Loan Agreement (“CLA”) and be able to make a quick transition to understanding the client's proprietary CLA and other loan documents
- Able to handle loan extensions. Reviews loan documents to ascertain compliance with conditions of pre-approved extensions. Prepares memoranda for approval of other extensions, if needed
Our client, a premium debt fund that primarily focuses on bridge/construction finance that puts a special emphasis on personal relationships and superior client service seeks an experienced CRE Loan Underwriter to join their growing, entrepreneurial team.
The CRE Loan Underwriter works closely with the firm's Chief Credit Officer and Partner with everything from reviewing all provided client information to determine the potential for funding, to preparing LOI’s and deal memos, creating construction budgets, and monitoring loans for signs of trouble.
The ideal CRE Loan Underwriter candidate has 10+ years' experience in commercial real estate credit analysis, loan structuring, and working closely with borrowers. They are self-motivated, analytically minded, and strong, emotionally intelligent communicator.
This role is primarily remote, with a small office located in the Calabasas area, in the North San Fernando Valley.
A day in the life of the successful CRE Loan Underwriter includes, but is not limited to:
• Negotiating loan terms, loan structure and loan agreement provisions with clients, alongside the salesperson
• Preparing LOI’s for new transactions, for Partner(s) approval
• Reviewing comprehending, and analyzing all loan information, including formation documents, budgets, property information, entitlement status and conditions of approvals, title reports, property and liability insurance, purchase documents, proforma’s, etc
• Ordering and reviewing Credit Reports, background investigations, and BICA reports
• Preparing Deal Memos for review and approval by Partner(s) and our client’s Investment Committee
• Proactively identifies early signs of troubled or potentially troubled loans
• Creating construction loan budgets and setting up for initial draw and subsequent draws
• Working closely with Chief Credit OXicer on all aspects of construction loan administration
• Reviews, and either recommends approval or requires additional information for, all Inspection Reports. Must pay special attention to comments from the inspector, line item reallocations, use of contingency reserve, suXiciency of interest reserve, and possible issues or errors
• Assisting Chief Credit Officer with a variety of needs of Borrowers, outside of "normal" loan activity or loan disbursements
