The Creative Arts Therapist functions within the Child Life Department offering the arts as a therapeutic modality for pediatric patients and their family members in an inpatient or an outpatient area.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Creative Arts Therapist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
1. Collaborates with Child Life Program.2. Provides creative arts therapy for both individuals and groups of children.3. Daily productivity goal 90% clinical and 10% non clinical responsibilities (volunteers, students, other programming needs). Team members will be responsible for collecting data to support productivity. Data will be forwarded to the leader on a monthly basis for review.4. Evaluates creative arts therapy program on monthly basis with Child Life Manager5. Provides therapeutic support for pediatric patients during identified stress points such as medical distress, end of life.6. Collaborates with other team members by sharing information regarding planning of treatment and follow up.7. Procures creative art supplies.8. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.) This process includes communicating with the patient, parent and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).9. Assists with other programming needs as assigned.10. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. Appropriate education in creative arts therapy from an accredited creative arts therapy program.2. Bachelor's Degree
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
1. Master's Degree
Licenses and Certifications Required:
1. Creative Arts Therapy Certification by the appropriate creative arts accrediting board within 6 months from date of hire.2. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
