- Reviews and analyzes crime reports, field interview information, and related criminal data and information daily to identify and evaluate crime series, trends and patterns; and testify in court or other proceedings.
- Utilizes manual and automated systems for storage and retrieval of crime, arrest, and calls for service information, including querying, sorting, and presenting data.
- Initiates and prepares crime analysis reports and studies, including known offender bulletins, crime series bulletins, and crime pattern bulletins with appropriate visual presentations, such as maps, bulletins, link analysis charts utilizing geographic information systems (GIS) software.
- Provides tactical and strategic analysis and investigative support in major case investigations involving criminal activity.
- Generate materials such as investigative reports, charts, graphs, logs, flow charts, telephone toll analysis, financial/asset trace reports, and tactical or strategic intelligence reports.
- Develops and maintains effective liaisons with local, State and Federal law enforcement agencies to exchange crime information by attending local and regional crime analyst meetings.
- Provides input with the preparation of the police department’s budget with respect to technology needs.
- Works with the Information Technology division to ensure that the police department’s network is in compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing manual and automated systems used within the Department.
- Accurately prepares and submits Crime Reporting Statistics to the Department of Justice and other government agencies.

- Strong English skills with spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation.
- Legal regulations regarding the access to police records and criminal databases as established by the State Department of Justice.

- The employee frequently works in office conditions where the noise level is usually moderate, at or below 85 decibels. Occasional driving is required to attend functions at various city facilities, professional and public meetings, and special events.
The City of La Habra is conducting a recruitment for the position of Crime Analyst/Information Specialist for the Police Department. This is a full-time position in the police department which reports to the investigation bureau commander.

In addition to the regular duties of traffic and law enforcement, the La Habra Police Department strives to assess the needs of the City and, working in partnership with area residents, successfully address those concerns. ABOUT THE POSITION :
Under general supervision, the crime analyst/information specialist designs, monitors and updates all forms of crime-related data; assists in collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from a variety of sources to identify and evaluate crime series, trends and patterns; develops reports on crime series, trends and patterns; assists in preparing crime summaries and statistical reports utilizing various data systems; disseminates analysis products to police department personnel and within the law enforcement community; support information database systems including analyzing problems related to software and data issues and assists system users; ensures compliance with mandated requirements; analyzes and prepares crime statistics for federal reporting; performs searches and uploads data on Uniform Crime Reporting System (UCR) and National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS); provides assistance to the system administrator for the police department’s Computer Aided Dispatch System (CAD), Records Management System (RMS), and Mobile Data Computer System (MDC); and performs other related duties as required.

This is a technical position that requires a minimum of sixty (60) college units or an Associates’ degree from an accredited college or university; possession of or concurrent enrollment in a state certified crime analyst certification program approved by the California Department of Justice and three (2) years of experience working with computer operating systems and databases. Experience in a law enforcement setting performing professional administrative and analytical work is highly desirable as is experience using the Spillman and West Covina Services Group CAD/RMS/MDC systems, Crystal Reports, and ESRI GIS systems.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid California “Class C” driver’s license and possess or be working toward the attainment of a certificate from the State of California Department of Justice in Crime and Intelligence Analysis.
