- Provide crisis intervention to individuals and families who are in emotional distress, and who present with a variety of issues including various mental health diagnoses, substance use issues, and/or other psychosocial challenges
- Conduct screening, intakes, and assessments of clients utilizing required instruments and formats within appropriate timelines
- Deliver services to clients in their homes and/or other settings in the community
- Answers the telephone, provides information, takes messages, and/or directs calls as appropriate
- Assess immediate safety of the client and the environment; assist with safety planning and brainstorming available options
- Provide symptom management, identify support systems, reduce, and mitigate risk factors
- Work with client's family and/or informal support systems to assist them in understanding and dealing with the client's problems
- Provide community engagement services including outreach to underserved areas in the community
- Provides referrals both internally and externally in response to needs presented by each client
- Offer information and warm handoffs when possible
- Maintain close and cooperative relationships with the community and other public agencies to carry out service plans
- Respond to calls for service and collaborate with law enforcement, partnering agencies, external providers, and community members to provide triage, assess needs and provide resources
- Maintain and manage accurate and timely clinical records, data collection and documentation as required
- Maintain training, education, and best practices by attending training, conferences, and other opportunities for continuing education
- Participate in clinical supervision as directed
- Embrace principles of equitable and compassionate care for people with behavioral health challenges
- Utilize active listening skills and cultural competence to ascertain each patient's needs. Make allowances for cultural beliefs when providing services
- Adhere to existing professional ethical standards.

- Masters in behavioral health
- Able to analyze situations accurately and to respond appropriately

- Ability to maintain professional demeanor when handling crisis
- Must have a commitment to and work well with clients identifying as BIPOC, LGBTQ, clients of all abilities and other under-represented communities in Boulder County
- Must understand how intersectionality, privilege, and socioeconomic status relate to the mental health of the community and have a personal commitment to anti-racism work
- Working knowledge on principles and practices of case management, linking to services, and follow-up for individuals in crisis
- Exercise appropriate level of initiative and judgment to make decisions within the scope of assigned authority
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job
- High level of interpersonal skills, including the ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations
- Effective time management and organizational skills
- Experience with low income and culturally diverse populations

Boulder County Community Services Department is seeking to hire two Crisis Interventionists for the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funded Crisis Assistance and Treatment Team (CAT), which works closely with WellMind (An ARPA funded centralized navigation team). The Crisis Interventionist (CI) will provide effective, evidenced-based crisis intervention, assessment, psychoeducation and brief supportive counseling to individuals and families who are in emotional distress. The Crisis Interventionist will interact with clients by phone and in-person. The CI will also provide referrals and follow-up for community members affected by behavioral health issues; as well as outreach and engagement services to ensure affected individuals and families are aware of our crisis services and know how to access these services. To ensure success as a Crisis Interventionist, you should be compassionate, empathetic and possess exceptional interpersonal skills. As this is a new program for the County, you will also be creating and helping implement a brand new crisis response service for this community that aims to be innovative, transformative and anti-oppressive in nature.
This is a full-time, benefited position. This is a term limited position with an anticipated end date of December 25, 2026. This position will work Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm with flexibility as program develops. This position will work out of 1333 Iris Ave. Boulder, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is exempt.
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
Hiring Salary Range: $63,840.00 - $77,892.00 Annually
Tentative Hiring Timeline:
New employees receive an 80-hour bank of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month. Boulder County offers bountiful benefits, including pension contributions.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of a bachelor's degree in human behavior science and 2 years of lived or worked behavior health experience. Additional related education may count towards required experience.
DRIVER'S LICENSE:
Frequently walks, bends, crouches and sits or stands for extended periods of time; by position, operates large vehicles daily and/or conducts home visits, occasionally required to physically pursue, restrain and control minors housed in the Juvenile Center; pushing/pulling meal cart, occasional lifting and carrying; frequent hand/eye coordination to operate computer keyboard and office equipment; vision for reading, recording and interpreting information; speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and members of the public.
