- Maintain and operate critical electrical systems from a utility point of service, main-tie-mains, electrical distribution boards, emergency distribution boards, automatic transfer switches, static transfer switches, and power distribution units.
- Maintain and operate emergency generators, load bank systems (reactive & resistive), fuel delivery systems, fuel storage systems, and fuel leak detection systems.
- Maintain and operate mechanical and hydronic cooling tower systems, pumps, VFDs, chillers, Water Source Heat Pumps, and computer room air conditioners.
- Maintain and operate automated open and closed water treatment systems.
- Maintain and operate critical fire and life safety detection and protection systems such as Vesda, Inergen & Halon protection assemblies, and pre-action suppression systems.
- Maintain and operate building automation controls systems including sequence of operations protocol, active monitoring, and executing changes of state as/if needed.
- Be familiar with and able to execute emergency operating and recovery procedures. Be familiar with change procedures from inception to installation and commissioning and supporting clearance requests, work plans, job plans, methods of procedure, standard operating procedures, risk analysis, and contingency planning.
- Prepare, oversee, administer, and record testing and compliance documentation. Maintain testing and maintenance records in compliance with Records Retention policies.
- Schedule contractors and vendors for all work performed in controlled environments for all activities, including service-affecting work.
- Read/interpret and respond to design documents, construction documents, submittals, schematics, requests for proposal, and close-out documentation.
- Oversee, document and track contractor and vendor work performed to ensure compliance with contract documents, purchase orders, or work authorizations.
- Respond to all critical alarms to mitigate downtime or operational disruptions and escalate as necessary.
- Prepare detailed written site incident reports, corrective measures, and root cause analysis.
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED
- Must possess a valid California driver’s license or ability to obtain by first day of employment
- Ability to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time
- Must be able to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, extended hours, nights, weekends, and/or overtime (scheduled or ad hoc)
- 5 years of technical experience in critical building infrastructure with background in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and equipment repair and maintenance experience
- Knowledge of facility emergency management procedures
- Knowledge of computer operations and energy management systems
- Demonstrated understanding of commercial building codes and standards
- Ability to learn quickly and identify and resolve mechanical/electrical problems and address issues as they arise
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics and drawings
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written
- Demonstrated technical skills and experience with Microsoft Office products and programs
- Ability to organize and maintain records for compliance
- Demonstrated understanding of the electrical and mechanical systems used in a data center environment, including: distribution systems, transformer/generator arrangements, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS/STS units, PDU units, chillers, air handling units and CRAC/CRAH units.
- Demonstrate responsible behavior and attention to detail and take the necessary precautions to complete assignments safely.
- Knowledge and understanding of basic building system design and operation, i.e., fire system, domestic water system, HVAC system and electrical distribution system

Corporate Real Estate Strategy and Services (CRESS) provides real estate and facility management services for the company. We establish policy and standards for the Company’s real estate portfolio, and delegate the responsibility to manage and operate some of the facilities to certain lines of business. CRESS directly manages and operates over 8 million square feet of common-use facilities throughout the service territory, including offices buildings, customer service offices, contact centers, service centers, regional office centers, conference centers, and our San Francisco headquarters.
Position Summary
This is an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1245 represented classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing employees at PG&E. This job is subject to collective bargaining.
You must be able perform all assigned tasks of a Building Technician, Building Crew Leads, and Lead Building Mechanics and you are considered an expert level employee in the responsibilities outlined below.
You will be responsible for maintenance, repair and installation of various systems and equipment and oversight of contractors in critical facility locations.
You must be willing and able to travel throughout PG&E territory at least 15% of the time with occasional overnight stays.
You must be able to complete a PG&E IBEW formal training program within two years.
The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
PG&E is providing the hourly rate that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This position is subject to collectively bargained hourly wage rates and increases. The starting wage rate for this position is $66.02 per hour. This wage rate is specific to the locality of the job. The wage rate is based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.
