      DEFINITION
      Monitors traffic at assigned locations to provide safe student escort across a roadway within a marked crosswalk to an assigned school.
      SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
      Receives general supervision from the Director of Transportation, or designee. May receive some guidance by school management.
      Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
      1. Stops traffic to allow students and adults to safely cross the street.
      2. Assists students in crossing the street safely;
      3. Maintains cooperation of motorists at school crossings; reports reckless motorists or anyone creating an unsafe situation for students to school management.
      4. Maintains order of students; reports any students not following safety or school rules (behavioral problems) to school management.
      5. Provides adult supervision of students before they reach the school grounds.
      6. Supports and enforces district policies and regulations.
      7. Performs related duties as assigned.

      Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
      Education:
      Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
      Experience:
      Some experience working with children.

      Work Schedule
      This position typically work two (2) hours/day with potential split shifts, and observes the student calendar.

      Examination
      Testing procedures may consist of a written multiple-choice examination, and oral interview examination. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be required to take the exam and notified via email communication of the scheduled date, time, and location. A valid picture identification is required prior to admittance.

      Tentative Test Date: Week of August 5, 2024 (subject to change as necessary)

      Salary
      The initial salary rate for a new employee is at the first step of the appropriate salary schedule for the position. The probationary period is 130 work days (not counting sick, industrial accident). Upon becoming permanent, a one-step salary advance shall be granted with future annual advances up to the fifth step of the salary schedule.

      Holidays and Leaves
      Seventeen (17) paid holidays that fall within the work year, pursuant to the District's Collective Bargaining Agreement with California Schools Employees Association Chapter 296 (CSEA).

      Sick leave shall be granted in the proportion of daily hours worked. Vacation is earned at the prescribed rate as part of compensation, and does not become vested until after completion of the initial probationary period.

      Working Conditions
      This job is performed in an outdoor environment. Exposures to Inclement weather conditions; high winds, dust and/or pollens; road traffic, exhaust and noise from automobiles, buses, motorcycles, and emergency vehicles; noise from school bells, students and community.

      Physical Demands
      The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following demands: Standing and walking for extended periods; significant lifting, carrying and reaching above shoulders (stop sign); neck rotation; some bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, balancing, climbing (curbs, ramps), twisting at waist; manipulation/grasp of stop sign, whistle, cell phone, and writing instruments; see and hear in normal range with or without correction; speak to exchange information.
