- Strategic Planning and Oversight
- Set financial mission and goals for organizational unit (BFR)
- Support the Director and Chief Administrative Officer in annual negotiations regarding institutional support with Health System, University, and School leadership
- Participate in annual negotiation meetings, providing all necessary documentation
- Oversee development of CTSI program annual budgets
- Coordinate the preparation of the consolidated annual tiered budget for SOM
- Prepare annual budget including expense and revenue budgets for all units within the BFR
- Work with SOM Finance Office on annual budget, Spring and Fall Projections; serve as main POC for SOM Finance office
- Determine resource needs for financial and grants management and compliance
- Provide ad hoc budget and analyses, including Business Plans, for new programmatic opportunities
- Develop standard financial reports and forecasts for each unit within the BFR
- Prepare and distribute monthly reporting package which includes a consolidated P&L and detailed statements
- Ad hoc reporting as needed
- Preparation of Discretionary Fund Reports, analysis and distribution of those reports
- Overall responsibility for month-end, quarter, year-end close
- Establish format and SOPs for monthly finance meetings with program teams and faculty leaders
- Compare forecasted spending throughout the fiscal year as compared to budget
- Identify causes for variances
- Address potential and actual overdrafts on projects
- Ensure financial and grants compliance
- Implement processes/ensure adequate training are in place, consistent with University requirements and expectations
- Oversee and manage the implementation of Financial Assessment Management System for the BFR
- Conduct internal audit of current processes for procurement (Buy@Duke, PCards, etc.) ensuring adequate controls
- Establish necessary controls & processes for purchasing and financial management, consistent with University policies
- Coordinate Duke and other audits of financial and accounting systems and procedures
- Supervise Financial Staff
- Oversee work of Grants Manager and Financial Analysts
- Mentor staff and support their career development
- Identify new resources as needed
- Prepare necessary documentation for new hires
- Conduct annual performance appraisals of employees
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, or a related field
- Strong communications skills
- Work requires a minimum of 10 years related business or administrative experience to acquire competence in applying general accounting principles, personnel practices, and coordination of major administrative functions

The CTSI Director of Finance will be responsible for overseeing and stewarding the financial assets of the CTSI. They will be the primary point of contact for financial issues for the SOM and will work closely with the SOM Finance Office and the Office of Research Administration.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Work requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field.
Experience
Work requires a minimum of 10 years related business or administrative OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE experience to acquire competence in applying general accounting principles, personnel practices and coordination of major administrative functions.
