      Job Summary

      Sweeps, mops, refinishes, and polishes floors. Cleans rugs and carpets with vacuum cleaner and shampoo machines.

      Cleans drinking fountains, conference rooms, and reception areas and maintains restrooms in sanitary conditions.

      Washes woodwork, walls, partitions, windows and ceilings.

      Moves furniture as necessary to clean, empties waste cans, cleans telephones, ceiling vents, and plumbing fixtures.

      Removes snow and ice. Reports need for cleaning supplies.

      Reports any unsafe or hazardous conditions including faulty plumbing or electrical service.

      Prepares daily time reports.

      Receives assignments and instructions from the Supervisor. Must be able to work independent of supervision.

      Knows how to safely and efficiently use cleaning materials and equipment; has a general knowledge of cleaning methods.

      Demonstrates tact and courtesy in contact with building occupants.

      Observes and follows safe work practices, and through personal action and assistance, encourages others to do likewise; keeps the work area free from hazards; and informs the Custodial Supervisor of existing and potentially safety hazards.

      Supervision Received

      Under the direction of the Lead Custodian and the supervision of the Program Manager.

      Minimum Qualifications (Consistent with Classification Standard):
      Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements

      Must be able to stoop or bend; stand for long periods of time; stand on hard floors (concrete, steel); work for long periods of time; walk up steps (one flight minimum); climb ladders, push, lift, and/or carry 50-60 pounds on a regular basis and 50-100 pounds on occasion (e.g., office furniture, carpet shampooers, buffers, recycle paper cards, etc.). Must possess knowledge of rules and regulations of custodial services, effective and safe cleaning methods, materials, and equipment and the safe operation thereof; ability and willingness to follow instructions; physical strength, neat appearance, politeness, and willingness to work with others; display an overall cooperative attitude. At least six months’ experience in custodial work. Must have completed an eighth grade education.
