      You must be able to work relatively independently and be able to perform general custodial duties. Tasks are routine and repetitive in nature and include operation of floor machines, auto scrubbers, industrial vacuum cleaners, extractors, and buffers.

      Our crew is responsible for cleaning 23 County buildings including:
      • Main County campus
      • Kitsap County Sheriff's precinct offices
      • Public Works Annex
      • Coroner's Offices
      • Juvenile Detention
      • Givens Community Center
      The full wage range of $16.75 - $23.67 is posted,
      however, anticipated starting wage is $18.49 - $21.44 depending on experience.
      REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
      • High School diploma or GED and
      • Six months general custodial experience
      PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, OR QUALIFICATIONS:
      • One year experience in commercial floor care
      • One or more years commercial/industrial custodial experience.
      • Custodial experience in public/heavy traffic buildings.
      Driving Requirements
      • The successful incumbent must meet the driving requirements of this position and prior to employment must submit a copy a current driving record/abstract (from state of residency) to review for eligibility to drive for Kitsap County. The successful incumbent must obtain a valid Washington State Driver's License prior to hire and must maintain a satisfactory driving record as outlined in the Kitsap County Vehicle Use Policy. This position is categorized as:
        • Category 1: Driver operates County-owned vehicle.
        Criminal Conviction Standards:
        • The successful incumbent will or may have unsupervised access to children under 18 years of age, a vulnerable adult, or a vulnerable person, and access to a secured/confidential facility or computer system(s). As a result, Kitsap County will be conducting an extensive criminal background check by law enforcement agencies, which will include fingerprinting. Prior to employment, the successful candidate must:
          • Successfully pass criminal background screen conducted by KCSO
          • Successfully pass a pre-employment physical to determine eligibility to perform the essential functions of the job.
          PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

          • Work is performed at various sites. Work may include exposure to biohazard materials, chemicals, and loud noise
          • The duties in this position are generally performed inside but will require some outside work which may expose incumbent to inclement weather
          • Position requires walking, standing, and balancing for extended periods of time when cleaning and operating heavy cleaning equipment/machinery (controlled with using both hands and feet simultaneously), and various floor machines.
          • Bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching (over shoulders, at waist and below waist), walking, climbing (ladders/stairs), standing, balancing, adequate vision to operate cleaning equipment. Handling and grasping items such as materials and debris.
          • Ability to climb up to four flights of stairs multiple times per workday.
          • Hearing sufficient to respond to audible alarms and telephone.
          • Clear speaking and adequate hearing sufficient to communicate effectively and respond appropriately when conveying or receiving information or instruction. Must possess the physical strength, agility and coordination required to operate heavy equipment such as but not limited to floor machines, auto scrubbers, and extractors.
          • Exertion of force of up to 50 lbs. regularly and/or up to 35 pounds frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds continually to lift/carry/push/pull/move objects and to operate a variety of cleaning tools.
          • Working around various hazards associated with cleaning including occasional exposure to machinery vibration, chemicals fumes, and dust.
          • Responsible for safe and proper use of chemicals and must use all assigned PPE
          • Physical hazards may occur when working with power scrubbers, buffers, waxers, power tools, climbing on ladders, and lifting.
          • The employee must be willing to work the assigned shift and in all County buildings, including the Jail and the Coroner's office.
          In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
          • Custodian/Floor tech duties include maintaining the overall cleanliness of the site including polishing floors, stripping and waxing floors, vacuuming, extracting, and encapsulating the carpets.
          • Scrub tile and grout
          • Upholstery cleaning
          • Maintain interior areas to include offices, lobbies, hallways, entrances, stairwells, and other public areas
          • Remove trash & recycling in common areas
          • Outside work may be assigned, including window washing and trash removal.
          • Sweep, mop, scrub, strip, wax and buff floors, hallways, stairways, and restrooms
          • Vacuum and clean carpets
          • Collect and remove waste paper, trash and recyclable materials from offices, halls, and restrooms
          • Wash walls, interior windows, mirrors, light fixtures, and drinking fountains
          • High and low dusting, clean, and maintain furniture, fixtures, window sills, and railings
          • Clean and disinfect toilets, wash bowls, and urinals and all common touch areas
          • Clean and sanitize kitchens (tables, counters, chairs, sinks)
          • Replenish supplies such as paper towels, toilet paper, seat liners, face masks, hand sanitizer, tissues, soaps, and other restroom supplies
          • Maintain the security of the facilities, including securing doors and windows
          • Report the need for building repairs or safety issues such as clogged sinks, toilets, drains, etc.
          • Report equipment and product needs to supervisor

          • This position is classified as eligible for overtime under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
          • This position is covered under a collective bargaining agreement with AFSCME 1308 and the Kitsap County Personnel Manual.
