      THIS IS A NON-CONTINUING POSTION DURING THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR.

      NOTE: This position is open to qualified school district employees from May 21 - May 29, 2025. Applications received from outside the district will not be considered until May 30th, 2025. Applications will be reviewed as they are received.

      Accountability: Reports to Grounds/Maintenance Lead and Custodian Lead

      Position Description:

      Perform routine task assignments to maintain school district standards of cleanliness and upkeep of facilities. Also performs possible ground and maintaince duties.

      Areas of Responsibility:

      • Dust and wipe furniture; sweep, mop or vacuum floors; empty wastebaskets and trash containers; replace light bulbs; refill tissue and restroom dispensers.
      • Set up facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events.
      • Wash windows, walls and equipment.
      • Lock and unlock buildings; secure building when faculties are not in use by checking for unlocked doors and windows; report any unauthorized occupants.
      • Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies.
      • May move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools.
      • May clean and paint surfaces.
      • Rake leaves and sweep debris; remove debris from school grounds; remove snow and ice from outside entrances, sidewalks, driveways and access roads.
      • Organize and maintain storage areas, custodial closets and maintenance work stations.
      • Remain at duty site the entire shift for emergency and security purposes.
      • Respond to security system alarms.
      • Cleans landscaped areas and related items (e.g. storm drains gutters, litter, playgrounds, sport fields, parking lots, etc.)
      • May coordinate with site, administration and athletic coaches to adjust irrigation schedules, filed preparation, etc.
      • Prepares grounds and athletic fields (e.g. assemblies, gymnasium, ball fields, etc.) for assemblies, athletic events and/or recreational activities.
      • Reports immediately in regards to damage or vandalism to facilities, or theft of equipment.
      • Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, sand, shavings, etc.) to ensure the availability of materials required to job sites and/or other district activities.
      • Performs basic functions related to various trades (e.g. district vehicles, carpentry, painting, plastering, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, masonry, etc.) to maintain/ repair buildings, grounds, facilities and equipment in operating condition.
      • Repairs various items, systems and/or components (e.g. safety rails, plumbing fixtures, furniture, toilets, clocks, water systems, lighting fixtures/systems, carpeting, vinyl floors, walkways, fences, playground equipment, roof patch, sprinkler heads, etc.) to ensure safety and maintain items in operating conditions.
      • Maintains tools and/or equipment in safe operating conditions.
      • Use computers and/or electronic equipment to fulfill job functions.
      • Participates in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attends any required meetings.
      • Other duties as assigned.

      Public, Student and Teacher Relations

      1. Employees will be asked to wear a simple uniform and/or name tag while on duty, which will identify them as “Facilities Worker”. Appearance is required to be well kept and clean.
      2. Good public relations are a MUST! Common courtesy, diplomacy and common sense are expected.
      3. Custodial staff may, if necessary, ask students to leave the building if they are causing problems. Report all such problems to the supervisor and principal.
      4. In all cases dealing with students, custodial staffs are expected to use mature judgment.
      5. People should not be allowed in the building unsupervised.
      6. A teacher’s request for a custodial worker to do specific work should be referred to the supervisor, unless no serious interruption of work schedule will occur

      Minimum Qualifications:

      1. Physical ability to lift 75 lbs. occasionally and 50 lbs. often.
      2. Experience in custodial duties/general maintenance.
      3. High school Diploma or equivalent.

      TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT/BENEFITS

      • Contract: Anticpated until the end of August, with typical hours from 6 am to 2:40, but may adjust depending on absence of other employees.
      • Benefits: This position does not receive benefits.
