  We are looking for:

  Reporting to the Applications Development Manager, the Customer Engineers provide the core engineering competency and execution within the department. Customer/market interaction and technology development are at the heart of Customer Engineering, working within project frameworks and relying on strong cross-functional skills. As part of the Commercial function of the Syensqo business, Customer Engineering is at the front-line of ensuring our customers’ and our business’ success.

  We are looking for enthusiastic and energetic engineers that can bring a willingness to fully engage in the described activities. Previous relevant experience is attractive - but self-awareness and openness to develop are equally important.

  The Applications Development team, within Customer Engineering, typically is working at TRL 3-6 - aiming to:

  • Fully understand the needs of markets, customers and specific applications
  • Converting these into requirements for the business
  • Driving the development of exemplary solutions and supporting the subsequent commercialisation.

  Key responsibilities for the role include:

  • Interaction with customers, the supply-chain, academia & authorities, establishing positive and productive relationships at multiple levels.
  • Develop and drive deep technical understanding of Syensqo’s portfolio of materials and the technologies that support them at our customers and within the application-space/market.
  • Working with a structured approach to good project management practice, taking accountability for sub-elements through to entire projects.
  • Develop strong cross-functional relationships within the business to drive progress
  • Identify and progress relevant collaborative opportunities internally and externally
  • Demonstrate the technical excellence of Syensqo in front of our customers
  • You will be responsible for data collection, interpretation and technical report generation - either directly or through working with supporting staff.
  • You will take a collaborative approach to search and understand process and IP within the Industry.
  • Communicate the progress of your work and projects through meaningful discussions and presentations. Formal technical reporting is also a given.
  • Demonstrate the ability to take on additional responsibility as required.
  • Spending time with customers, suppliers and in the wider market-place. This may involve travel within EMEA and, occasionally, further afield.

The Customer Engineer role within the Applications Development team will involve a balance of practical work within our centers and with external partners and customers - as well as a great deal of cross-functional interaction with stakeholders within the business.
  This pathway offers progression, from entry-level/early-career engineers through to mature, key-contributor roles. Across all levels, high standards of professional integrity, technical expertise, customer focus and project management will be developed and refined.

  You will bring:

  This career pathway typically spans from those with only basic experience after academic qualification - through to those that have spent 10-15yrs in a relevant composites industry position. This is heavily dependent on the person, their behaviors and experiences.

  • Typically minimum Bachelor's degree qualification in a relevant academic field.
  • Highest standards of safety and quality values

  • Ability to deliver results as both team member and team leader
  • Structured working to good project management practices
  • Understanding of technical data and drawings.
  • Have a strong analytical approach and structured ways of working e.g. documentation of work.
  • Working knowledge of basic financial/commercial terminology.
  • You will demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and foster innovation.
  • Ability to handle complex situations and change in demand autonomously, sometimes in pressured situations with dynamic objectives and tight deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively, and positively influence, using various media at all levels

  Additional information:
  The responsibilities and expectations described in these sections will naturally change through progression through the ‘levels’. Moving from heavily-supported learning and implementation phases at S16 level, through to becoming engineers that demonstrate role-model standards at S18 - expected levels of autonomy, ownership and accountability will increase with this progression. There will also be a commensurate shift from individual contribution towards further coaching & mentoring of the more junior members of the team - increasingly becoming part of the leadership of the group.
