Monitoring and analyzing cybersecurity alerts from cybersecurity tools.
Performing cybersecurity incident detection, analysis, and prevention.
Respond to level 1 requests for incidents.
Assist in email gateway system configuration, firewall configuration, endpoint detection and response system configuration.
Set up and maintains virtual private network (VPN) accounts for employees and contractors.
Conducts data security remediation such as security patching.
Conduct monitoring of data security and implements controls as directed; controls include access control lists (ACL), encryption, two-factor authentication, and strict password protocols.
Review data logs and activities and notifies more senior staff of “exceptions.”
Deliver security compliance and awareness education and training.
Provide input to the preparation of disaster recovery plans and business continuity plans.
Either:
A) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree which includes, or is supplemented by, twelve (12) credits in information technology or a computer related field, and one (1) year of experience in cybersecurity analysis, information security analysis, or digital forensics; or ,
B) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Associate’s Degree which includes, or is supplemented by, twelve (6) credits in information technology or a computer related field, and three (3) years of experience in cybersecurity analysis, information security analysis, or digital forensics; or ,
C) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of A) and B).
SPECIAL NOTE: Because of the rapid evolution of technology in this field five (5) years of qualifying experience must have been gained within the last six (6) years.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT : To be employed by the Suffolk County Department of Information Technology candidates may be required to attain Security+ or CompTIA CySA+ or CISSP Certification within 1 year of appointment.
1+ years of Palo Alto platform experience
Foundational knowledge of cybersecurity technologies in a municipal environment.
Certifications including but not limited to Security+, CISSP, CISM, CEH, ISSAP, ISSEP, or GSEC, required.

Suffolk County’s Department of Information Technology provides highly functional, available, trusted solutions that enable the County government to prevent, detect, respond, and recover from cyber threats.
The Cyber Security Unit reviews the County’s digital infrastructure and investigates digital security incidents to derive information in support of system and network vulnerability mitigation and reserve and present computer-related evidence in support of criminal, fraud, counterintelligence, or law enforcement investigations.The Cyber Security Analyst serves as a triage specialist and the role centers around reviewing and categorizing the latest threats signaled by the system.
The Cyber Security Analyst LI also handles vulnerability scans and reporting. The incumbent will run the necessary scans, review reports, and they will also oversee and configure security monitoring tools. Once the Cyber Security Analyst LI assesses the urgency and relevancy of these new threats, they will then create a support ticket for anything requiring the attention of a Level II cybersecurity analyst.
Cyber security analysts will also implement threat protection measures and security controls and may simulate security attacks to discover potential vulnerabilities within the county. Additional responsibilities include:
Salary Range: $58,647 - $95,448

In order to become permanent, the employee who is provisionally appointed must take the next examination for the position in question. The appointment to the position is then made from among the three highest scoring passing candidates who indicate their willingness to accept the position. Civil Service law does not compel the appointing authority to choose the provisional employee should he or she be one of the three candidates
