Responds to internal help desk requests of the highest level for both incidents and catalog services and coordinates with vendor support for external needs related to software and hardware
Runs penetration tests and recommends potential optimization opportunities for security monitoring tools to improve overall threat hunting efforts
Performs forensic analysis of information systems and portable devices and forensic recovery of data using assessment tools
Defines plans; organizes designs; and develops, modifies, tests, and integrates database or computer hardware systems to protect against cyber threats
Prepares disaster recovery plans and business continuity plans
Recommends and implements identify and access management (IAM) environment
Reviews, designs and delivers security compliance and awareness training
Researches and implements new security risk and mitigation strategies, tools, techniques, and solutions for the prevention, detection, containment, and correction of data security breaches
Advises management and users of cyber security procedures
Good knowledge of the current principles, practices and procedures of developing and implementing an information security program
Comprehensive knowledge of cybersecurity and information security controls, practices, procedures, and regulations
Thorough knowledge of network protocols, encryption techniques, firewalls, virtual private networks, database structures, wireless communications, and access security techniques
Good knowledge of the current principles, practice, and procedures of information technology
Thorough knowledge of the current literature sources of information and recent developments in the field of information technology security
Ability to analyze facts and exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions
Ability to supervise departmental staff in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Good judgment

Suffolk County’s Department of Information Technology provides highly functional, available, trusted solutions that enable the County government to prevent, detect, respond, and recover from cyber threats.
The Cyber Security Unit reviews the County’s digital infrastructure and investigates digital security incidents to derive information in support of system and network vulnerability mitigation and reserve and present computer-related evidence in support of criminal, fraud, counterintelligence, or law enforcement investigations.DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class is involved in reviewing and responding to highly advanced cyber security threats while supervising a unit of Cyber Security Analysts within a County Department. The incumbent protects cybersecurity assets and delivers cybersecurity incident detection, incident response, threat assessment, cyber intelligence, software security, and vulnerability assessment services. Work is performed under general supervision, and is reviewed through conferences and consultation for the achievement of desired results. Duties require independent judgment and initiative. Does related work as required.

Salary Range: $74,072 - $123,035

Minimum Qualification and Education Requirements:
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Either:
A) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree which includes, or is supplemented by, twelve (12) credits in information technology or a computer related field, and five (5) years of experience in cybersecurity analysis, information security analysis, or digital forensics; or ,
B) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Associate’s Degree which includes, or is supplemented by, twelve (12) credits in information technology or a computer related field, and seven (7) years of experience in cybersecurity analysis, information security analysis, or digital forensics; or ,
C) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of A) and B).
SPECIAL NOTE : Because of the rapid evolution of technology in this field, qualifying experience must have been gained within the last six (6) years.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT : To be employed by the Suffolk County Department of Information Technology candidates may be required to attain a CISSP Certification within 3 years of appointment.
This Role Is A Provisional Appointment
A provisional appointment, which occurs only in the competitive class, is a temporary appointment to a position for which no eligible list exists or for which an eligible list exists with fewer than three candidates who are willing to accept the position. In order to become permanent, the employee who is provisionally appointed must take the next examination for the position in question. The appointment to the position is then made from among the three highest scoring passing candidates who indicate their willingness to accept the position. Civil Service law does not compel the appointing authority to choose the provisional employee should he or she be one of the three candidates
