Overview:

The Cyber Security AppSec team will be maturing some existing processes related to SAST, API's, App Risk, and Threat Modeling. The team will be using the Agile methodology and moving fast. A summer intern will help support the quality of the work related to these different work streams by learning the details of each and ensuring all Confluence documentation is up to date. This will be a great opportunity for someone who has limited experience in Cyber Security. This person will also have the chance to perform some hands-on tasks related to these work streams with the potential to assist other teams within the Cyber Security Organization. In addition to being exposed to Cyber Security, the candidate will learn about the Amex GBT business and see first-hand how the AppSec team partners with the business to securely meet goals and objectives.

The candidate should be studying Cyber Security and IT in an accredited college, possess some knowledge of scripting and/or programming, and expect to work remotely for 1 - 2 months in a fully virtual environment. Although the duration of the internship is short, the candidate is expected to act with the utmost integrity and professionalism, as she/he will be a member of the AppSec team during this period. The candidate will be expected to work on a small AppSec related project and deliver a small presentation of what was learned during the internship.

Responsibilities:

• Attends meetings related to all work streams.
• Functions as a junior member of the AppSec team by validating the documentation created by the team and working with the team to make corrections related to accuracy and clarity.
• Creates SNAP tickets for any infrastructure or firewall requests.
• Performs research and processes Sonatype Nexus IQ OSS waiver requests.
• Performs research and processes Snyk requests.
• Participates in any AppSec Proof of Concepts.
• Supports the AppSec Champions program as needed.
• Assists the AppSec team by researching Amex GBT Security Policies, Standards, and Procedures.
• Assists the AppSec team with metrics definition and collection.

Qualifications:

• Pursing a bachelor’s degree related to Cyber Security and / or IT.
• Knowledge of a SIEM.
• Knowledge of a programing language such as JAVA, JavaScript, or Python.
• Knowledge of the Linux command line.
• Knowledge of Networking.
• Knowledge of Security Frameworks.
• Knowledge of SQL and Databases.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• A Cyber Security related certification is preferred.
• Ability to effectively communicate at all levels.
• Demonstrated willingness to learn new technologies.

Location

The US national hourly wage range for this position is from $19.00 to $38.00 per hour. The national range provided includes the hourly rate that GBT expects to pay for the role. Actual hourly wage rate will be based on factors including the scope and complexity of the role and the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and work location.
