Job Description

- Coordinate supplier MPD design and redesign efforts (Hardware and Software)
- Verify control system design compliance with specifications and system requirements
- Support testing and troubleshooting for MPDs at the IPS CTF and supplier facility
- Support lifecycle management activities such as spares procurement
- Interface with technical and management personnel at NAVSEA, NNL, NSWC, and vendors
- Interface with Operations and Trades at Electric Boat manufacturing facilities
- Enforce technical requirements on vendors
- BS or MS engineering degree with technical background (Mechanical, Systems, Marine Mechatronics, etc.)
- 0 - 3 years of relevant engineering experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
- Ability to occasionally travel to remote facilities within the United States (Philadelphia, PA; Milwaukee, WI; Washington, D.C., etc.)
- Experience working with government customers
- Multi-disciplinary systems engineering experience in complex systems based products
- Experience with MIL Standards
- Experience in control systems, variable speed motor drives, fluid systems engineering, or thermal analysis
- Experience using MATLAB and/or Simulink
- Experience using Microsoft products
- Ability to understand macro level objectives and priorities while driving detailed level actions

Overview
COLUMBIA Integrated Power Systems (IPS) Engineering has an opening for an engineer to support design, test, shipboard integration, analysis, and system testing of the COLUMBIA Class Main Propulsion Motor Drives (MPDs). The D489 MPD team responsibilities include MPD design development/redesign efforts, qualification testing, and analysis for all systems within the component including control systems, fluids systems, structural, and materials. Additionally, the team has a strong focus on driving the supplier deliverables, test procedures, test reports, and design to meet all applicable requirements without deviation while identifying deficiencies in the specification to apply lessons learned to future electric propulsion plant submarine topologies. Engineers in the group will assist in MPD construction support and shipboard integration at Electric Boat manufacturing facilities and test support at the IPS Compatibility Test Facility (CTF) in Philadelphia, PA.
