      This position is based in San Antonio, TX.

      What you'll do:

      Our Data Analyst Interns, provide decision support for business areas across the enterprise. Interns will be responsible for applying mathematical and statistical techniques and/or innovative /quantitative analytical approaches to make conclusions and give 'insight to action' recommendations to answer business objectives and inspire change. The essence of work performed by Data Analyst Interns involves gathering, manipulating and synthesizing data, models and other relevant information to draw conclusions and make recommendations resulting in implementable strategies. Interns will be placed onto a team focusing on one or more of the following roles: Business Intelligence Analyst, Data Scientist, Decision Science Analyst, Information Management Analyst, or Sensitive Data Security Analyst.

      Business Intelligence Analyst:

      • Understands the value of prototyping, usability, and the end-user experience to maximize the impact of the final data visualization product (dashboard, report, insight, or analysis).
      • Acts as a trusted data visualization advisor to the stakeholder/end-user in order to drive business value.
      • Develops basic knowledge of relevant data, information, and application architecture decisions.

      Data Scientist:

      • Supports the delivery of business insights using machine learning, simulation, and optimization.
      • Under direct supervision and guidance, translates business request(s) into specific analytical questions and executes on the analysis and/or modeling.
      • Acquires knowledge of data analysis techniques, technologies, and methodologies. Works closely with more senior data scientists to develop hands-on modeling experience.

      Decision Science Analyst:

      • Incorporates visualization techniques to support the relevant points of the analysis and ease the understanding
      • Supports identifying and gathering the relevant and quality data sources required to fully answer and address the problem for the recommended strategy through testing or exploratory data analysis.
      • Delivers analysis/findings in a manner that conveys understanding, influences up to mid level management, garners support for recommendations, drives business decisions, and influences business strategy.

      Information Management Analyst:

      • Supports team members in reviewing, validating, and recording metadata and data quality information.
      • Contributes to the development of metadata definitions, data quality rules, thresholds, and standard metrics of quality for data elements that support critical business processes.
      • Assists the maintenance of metadata repository and proper metadata association.
      • Supports development of processes and enhancements to mitigate data quality risks. Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

      Sensitive Data Security Analyst:

      • Within defined guidelines and frameworks, investigates, evaluates, analyzes, designs, monitors, responds, administers and/or implements data security systems, policies and processes focusing on mitigating, reporting and analysis of data security risk.
      • Resolves data security issues using a variety of data security tools to detect, analyze and respond to non-compliant management of sensitive data.
      • Works under minimal supervision on low to moderately complex work assignments to protect sensitive data/information by analyzing and recommending appropriate solutions to manage and protect sensitive data (e.g. PII, PHI, PCI, etc).

      What you need to have:

      To qualify, you must be pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university, and plan to graduate after the final day of the internship. Most of our interns participate the summer between their junior and senior years. Our 2024 internship will start on May 29, 2024 and last through August 9, 2024.

      • Graduation date cannot be prior to August 10, 2024
      • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher at a 4-year accredited university in Data and/or Business Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Finance, Mathematics, Management Information Systems or other quantitative disciplines.
      • Understanding of scientific approaches to problem solving.
      • Experience in predictive analytics or data analysis.

      What sets you apart:

      • Graduation date between August 2024 and May 2025
      • Knowledge of mathematical and statistical techniques and approaches used to drive fact-based decision-making.
      • Knowledge of data analysis tools, data visualization, developing analysis queries and procedures in SQL, SAS, BI tools or other analysis software, and relevant industry data & methods and ability to connect external insights to business problems.
      • Experience in one or more dynamic scripted language (Python, R, etc.) and database query language (such as SQL, HQL, NoSQL, etc.) for performing statistical analyses and/or building and scoring AI/ML models

      What we offer:

      Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the hourly range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual hourly rate for this role may vary by location. The range for this position is: $25 - $34.

      Interns will receive an intern stipend to assist with expenses.
