Within the Group, you will join the Group Risk Management (GRM) brings together high level and multidisciplinary staff with engineers, PhDs, actuaries, data scientists and financials split between Paris, Zürich and Madrid.
Within the GRM, you will join the GRM P&C.
AXA Group Risk Management Property & Casualty (GRM P&C) deals with the most sophisticated P&C technical and actuarial challenges of a leading international insurance company, among which the management of natural catastrophe risks (CAT). Natural variability of climate and seismic activity have demonstrated their devastating potential, climate change bringing additional uncertainty for the future.
Within this Department, you will be part of the GRM P&C Natural Perils Management team (20 FTEs) which is organized in two excellence centers (CAT Data & Analytics, R&D NatCat Modeling and Reinsurance), the Data Engineer will report to the manager of CAT Data & Analytics under the supervision of Group Head of Natural Perils Managment.
Your job and daily missions :

Position Responsibilities
- Develop innovative tools for data collection, treatment, modelling and reporting
o Lead, implement and leverage data analytics to tackle analysis of a larger set of events and improve the understanding of CAT risks and their impact up to senior management level;
o Lead and implement data analytics best-practices to assess the data accuracy and reliability
o Provide engineering support in the building of our ‘Live CAT’ tool (live assessment of CAT events), especially for climatic events, earthquakes and wildfire
o Interpretation and effective communication of result;
o Evolve in the regulation environment (Solvency II, GDPR): produce technical documentation, adopt best knowledge management practices and make sure governance standards and Group recommendations are followed at Group and entity levels;
- Assess CAT risks for AXA operational entities (CAT Process)
o Provide a technical support to local entities around the collection of their exposure data;
o Assess CAT risks (cyclones, earthquakes, floods, hailstorms) associated to these exposures using dedicated catastrophe modelling tools;
o Deliver an AXA view of the gross risk for several entities enabling them to purchase adequate reinsurance in line with their risk appetite;
- Infuse, diffuse and leverage CAT expertise
o Support the P&C risk assessment related to CAT risks (Live Event Analysis, Parametric insurance, Real Disaster Scenarios);
o Support business development and profitability within AXA P&C entities by developing actuarial solutions consistent with the most up-to-date scientific vision of the hazard and risk.
o Develop partnerships and joint developments for new data or modelling insights with scientific institutions
o Participate in the Group’s response to climate risks and their evolutions, within its corporate responsibility framework;

Position Requirements
The candidate will have a solid scientific background together with strong leadership and project management skills allowing him / her to evolve in a highly exposed and international environment.
- Professional and technical skills
o Phd/Master’s Degree/Engineer in hazard related subject, mathematics or statistics;
o Proficient programming skills, advanced IT knowledge, robust data treatment skills
o Strong problem-solving skills and keen attention to detail;
o French and Business English – fluent (spoken and written);
- Interpersonal skills
o Leadership, autonomy and Team spirit / project management abilities;
o Analytical skills / Ability to evolve in a diverse technical environment;
o Motivated by an international and dynamic environment;
o Interest in the business fields related to (re)insurance and actuarial science
