      POSITION DESCRIPTION

      The Data Product Manager I, Data & Analytics reports to the Data Product Manager II, and the role has very close interactions with key stakeholders across BCI and the Data & Analytics team.

      The Data Product Manager I leads the product lifecycle for data products (e.g., curated datasets, reports and dashboards, machine learning models) from concept to launch, and manages data product performance for the lifespan of the product. The role works closely with the business on understanding opportunities where business activities can benefit from the utilization of data, and then works to translate those opportunities into defined work items for the Data & Analytics team to build.

      As a member of the data product management team, this role organizes work items in a backlog and prioritizes in concert with the business. The role supports the Data & Analytics team by gathering information required to optimize the development and testing process, and then works with the team to take the data product through to launch within BCI. This role conducts change management as well as user adoption-based activities (e.g., presentations, training, written communication).

      The Data Product Manager is an expert in investment management products and services and has expertise requesting and/or using data products. This role scopes and defines data products using an iterative agile development methodology.

      This role is accountable for ensuring data products have high utilization, long-term lifespan, and provide the business value they were intended to.

      WHAT YOU BRING

      Must have:

      • Applicable university degree or suitable combination of education and experience

      • 3-5+ years direct experience within the investment management industry in a data centric role, with expertise in one or more investment management functions

      • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

      • Strong analytical and translation skills, with the ability to discover, summarize, and translate business requirements into detailed technical specifications

      • Working knowledge and experience in data engineering, analytics, or data science

      • Strong team player focused on cross-departmental collaboration with both technical and non-technical teams

      Preferred:

      • Demonstrated experience in managing projects with proven ability to prioritize competing deliverables

      • Working knowledge of agile methodologies and product management

      • Working knowledge of data and analytics technologies

      • Working knowledge of, in priority order, SQL, Python or R languages

      • Working knowledge of data governance

      • CFA candidate or charter holder

      WHAT YOU WILL DO

      • Identifies opportunities where data products can support and improve targeted business outcomes

      • Defines and prioritizes business area data product roadmaps, working closely with stakeholders to ensure alignment with business strategy and data & analytics strategy

      • Leads and drives the planning and execution of key data product projects and initiatives and optimizes delivery using waterfall and agile project methodologies

      • Leads requirements gathering with stakeholders, which may include reverse engineering of legacy tools and solutions

      • Translates business requirements into technical specifications, which data & analytics engineers and scientists can use to build data products

      • Contributes to the design of data products, specifically datasets and analytics (reports and dashboards), by factoring in sustainable design and end user experience

      • Develops logical delivery path focusing on an iterative product development approach

      • Supports data & analytics engineers during development, by clarifying requirements and managing stakeholder communication and expectations during the journey to delivery

      • Performs quality assurance of data and analytics products ensuring high quality product delivery

      • Fosters cross-functional data and analytics product efficiency through building foundational and shared products

      • Provides clear communication to business users of upcoming, in progress and delivered changes

      • Monitors and analyzes product performance, gathers customer feedback, and makes data-driven decisions to improve data products

      • Keeps an eye on new investment products, analyzes and develops or mitigates impact to business users and data and analytics pipelines

      • Manages the entire product lifecycle, from ideation to launch, ensuring successful delivery of products that meet customer needs

      • Communicates product vision, strategy, and performance to leadership and stakeholders

      WHERE YOU WILL WORK

      This position is located in our downtown Victoria office.

      SALARY RANGE

      BCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off.

      The annualized base salary range for this Victoria based role is CAD $95,000 to $115,000.

      The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.

      We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we compete for talent and with consideration to internal equity and job structure. We aim for actual pay to be around the median of the market for target or expected levels of performance, and around the upper quartile of the market for excellent performance.

      Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise.
