First American’s Internship Program is a full-time, 10-12 week paid internship from June – August, 2024 which can be worked from an office or remotely, depending on the job opportunity. Our Interns will work in a program designed to help you gain experience and develop the technical, professional and interpersonal skills that will be invaluable throughout your career. As a First American Data Scientist Intern you will gain exposure to working in a corporate environment within the Financial/Tech Industry—balanced with intern-specific activities, executive level presentations and networking opportunities—while under the guidance of a manager and/or mentor. Undergraduate students are assigned significant work assignments to support a specific business function within Data and Analytics.
Responsibilities:
This Data Scientist Internship within Data and Analytics will be a project-based role to gain varied experience on numerous software development projects, which may include model development, operations testing, scripting and getting exposure to our cloud environment.
As a Data Modeling Intern working in First American’s Data and Analytics division, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with a strong team of data scientists, engineers, and subject matter experts to build best in class property valuation models, related collateral analytic models, and work with unique data. You will be involved in building analytics capabilities and have access to property-centric data that spans 100% of the nation.
Essential Functions:
• Leverage skills to perform exploratory analysis, construct relevant variables, and identify patterns and data anomalies.
• Work with data operations partners to enhance existing and future data elements for model accuracy and effectiveness.
• Perform end-to-end activities within the model development life cycle from problem identification, feature engineering, model training and evaluation and deployment.Job Qualifications:
We are seeking College/University students enrolled in Bachelor’s degree programs with 0-2 years' of work experience. Preferred Field of Study in.... Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Systems.
To qualify, candidates will possess the following:
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite applications and an understanding of the software development lifecycle
• The ability to solve problems, be detailed oriented and be conscientious about all work completed• Experience with large datasets
• Demonstrated proficiency with RDBs and hands on experience developing high performance SQL queries
• The potential to excel in the following competencies: Communication, Customer Focus, Ethics & Integrity, Teamwork & Adaptability, Productivity & Initiative• Outstanding interpersonal skills
Pay Range: $18hr-$22hr
This hiring range is a reasonable estimate of the base pay range for this position at the time of posting. Pay is based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements and geographic location
