      Position Summary

      Purpose Financial is looking for a Data Scientist to join our Data Science team to detect fraudulent applications, identify emerging fraud trends, and work with cross-functional teams to implement solutions to prevent future fraudulent activity. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of data analytics and predictive modeling. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with large data sets. This role works closely with management to perform analysis and help make informed decisions about fraud mitigation and managing the risks. Furthermore, this role requires someone who quickly adapts to change and is willing to complete all duties as assigned and requested.

      Job Responsibility

      • Develop and implement advanced statistical and machine learning models leveraged through the customer lifecycle with a focus on fraud mitigation.
      • Evaluate the performance of existing models and design experiments to improve model performance via champion/challenger tests.
      • Discover insights from additional data sources to understand/influence consumer financial behavior and c ontinue to enhance machine learning models as additional data becomes available.
      • Develop automated processes and procedures to streamline data analysis and reporting. Monitor trends in relevant KPIs (key performance indicators) and report on key insights on a regular basis.
      • “Ad-Hoc” analysis as assigned.
      • Understand, adhere to, and enforce all corporate policies.

      Education Required

      Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field. (Advanced Degree preferred.)

      Experience Required

      • 1 – 2 years of experience working in an analytical role in banking, finance, or retail.
      • Prior experience in developing machine learning models is preferred.

      Knowledge Required

      • Experience in building machine learning models using R or Python.
      • Exposure to reporting tools such as Tableau, PowerBI.
      • Experience with the different types of machine learning techniques and the usual Python data science stack (Pandas, scikit-learn, NumPy, XGBoost, SHAP, notebook environments, etc.) is preferred.
      • Working knowledge of SQL.
      • Ability to combine data from multiple sources to analyze and interpret business performance.
      • Excellent written and verbal communications skills would be needed to communicate in person, by phone, and through email.
      • Adaptability and flexibility to changing environment; and comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Ability to interact professionally and exhibit appropriate social skills. Ability to understand and ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and laws governing our industry/business and products. Ability to quickly learn all technology needed to perform the role.
