This role is a great opportunity join our EG SEO Automation & Experiementation team, which is working to design and build Automation products that dynamically and efficiently provide the right information to travelers, while driving substantial growth in organic search traffic(SEO) and overall profitability through the synergistic use of Data, AI, and Technology.

      Success as a Data Scientist revolves on your expertise in extracting actionable insights, shaping datasets, and conducting advanced exploratory data analysis. Your role includes crafting analytically robust solutions, applying statistics , and efficiently communicating technical nuances to both technical and non-technical teams. Your impact is underscored by your ability to frame business challenges as analytical problems, contributing to continuous improvement in this dynamic environment.

      You will collaborate closely with Machine Learning scientists, Data Scientists, Software Engineers, SEO Specialists, Data Engineers, Product Managers, Senior Leaders, and other business stakeholders across various Expedia Group locations worldwide.

      What you’ll do:

      • You will extract data from multiple data sources and combine them into the required datasets for model building or analytics

      • You will conduct exploratory data profiling techniques, product crosstabs, common summary descriptive statistics etc

      • You will pick analytically valid approaches, appropriate in terms of level of effort, favoring iterative delivery that solve for the objective, not the ask

      • You will write clean code that is maintainable, optimized, modular with good naming conventions for analytics or machine learning using software design principles, data structures, algorithms, and computer science fundamentals

      • You will conduct hypotheses testing and design complex experiments

      • You will apply common statistical methods such as linear and non-linear regression, multivariate analysis to interpret results

      • You will generate approach (supervised vs. unsupervised) choice of algorithm (linear, GBM, DNN) and data sources to solve business problems

      • You will become knowledgeable in Expedia Group visualization tools, creating complex calculations using advanced features

      • You will manage stakeholders with frequent communication, expectation management, meeting deadlines and the backlog

      • You will communicate with and influence partners and leadership teams

      • You will clearly and confidently articulate decision-making rationale, solutions, methodologies, and frameworks to team members and both technical and non-technical partners

      • You will optimize for cost (for cost and performance) the extraction of data from multiple data sources and combine them into the required datasets for model building or analytics

      • You will frame business challenges as an analytics problem and concrete set of analytical tasks

      Who you are:

      • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Mathematics, Science, Statistics or related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience

      • Relevant experience includes: Developed, and drove significant and sustained change and performance improvement from data-driven insights. And/or built and maintained a data science project/product in production environments. Demonstrates competency in some areas of statistics and requires limited supervision

      • You are proficient in Python, Scala or R, or any other major ML programming language

      • You understand both frequentist and Bayesian statistics

      • Experienced in the fundamentals of big data architecture (streaming events, data lakes, analytics engines) and relational database models

      • Apply knowledge of strong SQL

      • Display strong domain knowledge, business acumen and critical reasoning skills

      The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $112,000.00 to $156,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $179,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

      Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
