- Moffitt Cancer Center possesses extensive clinical and research data resources, including genomic data, electronic health records, imaging data, and more. As a data scientist, you would have access to these valuable datasets, enabling to work with large-scale and diverse data sources to extract meaningful insights using latest industry models like GPT, BERT, LLMs etc. along with leading-edge technologies like Snowflake, AWS etc.

- The DS will implement Moffitt’s data and analytics strategy through the creation of predictive models and algorithms, manipulation of datasets to identify trends and extract meaningful knowledge, development of data mining solutions using natural language processing and machine learning to extract structured data, and more.
- An ideal data scientist at Moffitt Cancer Institute should possess a strong foundation in data science, including expertise in statistical analysis, machine learning, and data manipulation.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and experience with relevant data science libraries and frameworks, is crucial. Additionally, familiarity with big data technologies and tools for handling large-scale datasets would be advantageous.
- Healthcare domain expertise allows the data scientist to effectively collaborate with oncologists, researchers, and clinicians and contribute valuable insights to cancer-related projects.
- As a senior Data Scientist, the candidate will be responsible for designing advanced analytics solutions that meet the business requirements and goals of the organization.
- This includes understanding the data landscape, identifying the right technologies and tools, and creating a solution architecture that integrates various data sources and analytics components.
- The DS will liaise directly with both clinical and research faculty whose work is focused on genomics, radiomics, patient-reported outcomes, and other areas to ensure Moffitt’s analytics methods are best positioned to accelerate discovery using Moffitt’s vast data assets.
- This role will also work closely with the IT team and other stakeholders to integrate advanced analytics solutions with the existing Moffitt Cancer Analytics Platform (MCAP) data platform and infrastructure.
- This role would also need to mentor junior data scientists on methodologies and practices
- Master’s Degree in data science, mathematics, statistics, computer science, or related quantitative field and 7 years of experience in quantitative analytics and applied data science OR Ph.D. in data science, mathematics, statistics, computer science, or related quantitative field and 5 years of experience in quantitative analytics and applied data science.
- Experience must include a minimum of 5 years of experience independently leading complex data science projects.
- Strong proficiency programming in R, Python, or adjacent languages
- Experience performing advanced statistical analysis and/or building a variety of machine learning models
- Experience writing SQL queries, mining large datasets (pandas/dplyr), and using data visualization tools (matplotlib/ggplot2/plotly)
- Experience with git or similar version control
- Experience with cloud computing (i.e, AWS, Snowflake)
- Experience working with healthcare data
- Ability to translate complex datasets into simple recommendations
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to write and speak about technical concepts to diverse stakeholder groups

Summary
The Data Scientist IV (DS) will work directly with key stakeholders throughout Moffitt to document data-related needs and identify novel approaches, including advanced data science and analytics techniques, for addressing those needs. The DS will incorporate these novel approaches into the larger Health Data Services and Digital Innovation strategies.
