      Data Scientist Staff

      Job Summary

      The Data Scientist Staff position will leverage very large data sets to support Oncor Operations and Maintenance departments in their continuous effort to improve safety, increase reliability and provide better service to the 10 million customers in the Oncor service territory. To accomplish the desired results, the incumbent will utilize data sets such as operational data from the bulk power grid, outage event information, data from 3.8 million meters and asset information. The position may also use data external to Oncor such as weather, regulatory and demographic data.

      Emphasis will be placed on the incumbent’s ability to utilize advanced tools designed for very large data sets such as SPARK, Hadoop, Mongo and Cassandra. The incumbent will also utilize their organizational skills along with their knowledge of relational and time series databases to evaluate various advanced modeling techniques, build/maintain appropriate queries, develop necessary algorithms, and create both ad-hoc and published reports. This will include analyzing, troubleshooting and enhancing poor performing queries, algorithms and reports.

      This position may be required to attend and present at internal meetings and events as well as presenting at various analytics conferences each year. This could include visiting with other utilities and vendors at their facility or one of Oncor’s Texas location.

      Key Roles & Responsibilities

      · Consistently research new methods of capturing data

      · Develop infrastructure to clean data and implement data scrubbing automation protocols

      · Gathers, extracts, manipulate, analyze, curate, and model data using analytical and statistical tools

      · Identifies new sources of data and new methods to improve data collection, analysis, and reporting

      · Maintains a database ‘sandbox’ or ‘workbench’ environment to achieve the required reports

      · Ensures the efficient performance of queries, algorithms and analytical functions to generate reports

      · Design complex reports or presentations to monitor and analyze assets, events, communications, energy usage, customer information, and other related use cases

      · Works independently and receives minimal guidance

      · Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience

      Education, Experience, & Skills

      · Master’s degree preferred in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or Business Administration and two years data analytics experience, OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or Business Administration with four years data analytics experience, OR eight years data analytics experience

      · Certifications in Data Science preferred such as DASCA, Data Science Council of America, or similar

      · Proficient with Structured Query Languages (SQL), Python, .Net and has exposure to advanced tools such as Spark, Cassandra, Hadoop or similar

      · Proficient with Microsoft Excel

      · Strong communication skills

      Consulting Data Scientist

      This position will be responsible for assisting with the development of less experienced peers by mentoring and assisting them with more complicated tasks. Identifying, planning and managing projects utilizing a team of engineers and analysts will occasionally be required.

      Education, Experience, & Skills

      • Master’s degree preferred in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or Business Administration and five years business analytics experience, OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or Business Administration with eight years business analytics experience
      • Certifications in Data Science preferred such as DASCA, Data Science Council of America, or similar
      • Recognized internally and externally as expert and industry leader in a particular technical field
      • Requires ability to analyze, evaluate and apply various data modeling techniques such as advanced artificial intelligence and adaptive algorithms
      • Expert knowledge of Structured Query Languages (SQL), Python, .Net as well as advanced tools such as Spark, Cassandra, Hadoop or similar
      • Experience in containerized data tools such as Docker preferred
      • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint
      • Strong communication skills
      • Strong leadership skills
