  ISO New England is the independent system operator responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable flow of electricity in our region and planning for the future of the electric grid. We are at the forefront of New England’s ongoing transition to clean energy.

  New technologies and the New England region’s economy-wide decarbonization efforts are driving a profound transformation in the work of the Forecast Group within System Planning. Responsible for analytics and predictive modeling of the region’s electricity demand across all timescales—spanning both short-term and long-term time horizons—the Forecast Group is innovating and redesigning its forecasting methods, software and tools to meet changing trends in how retail customers procure , manage and use electricity.

  This role requires a self-starter with demonstrated ability to work seamlessly both unsupervised and in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment. T here are two open positions, e ach having a re spective emphasis on either short - or long - range forecasting, with opportunities to work in both areas concurrently . Both roles provide an opportunity to lead the t eam’s development of next generation forecasting tools that are integral to the planning and operation of the future grid.

  How You Will Make A n Impact

  • Work independently and c ollaborat ively on analytical, programm ing, mode lling and data management activities
  • M ap out and document problem statements , project requirements and assoc i ated workflows in pursuit of efficient a nd effective solutions
  • Leverage a curious mindset, initiative , and “ elbow grease ” to enhance existin g processes, and to innovate new forecasting methods, tools, and software
  • Communicate complex, technical content to a diverse audience through written reports and presentations
  • Apply a persistent drive for quality r esults to l ead the development of data pipelines, reusable software packages and visualizations
  • Research forecasting developme nts within the research community and strategically implement findings

  What You Need To Be Successful

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics , mathematics, engineering, operations research, or a related field required .
  • 3+ years’ experience in the energy industry in forecasting, data analytics, or equivalent; experience in electricity consumption modelling or economic modelling in the energy sector is a plus.
  • Innovative thinker with a passion for predictive modeling, coding, and algorithm /s oftware development
  • Proficiency in at least one advanced programming language (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB, SAS) is required to succeed in this role; familiarity with MATLAB is a plus
  • Hands-on experience in software development in a collaborative team setting
  • K nowledge about distributed energy resources, electric vehicles, and/or cold-climate heat pumps is a plus
  • Experience in working with big data, geospatial analytics, and/or probabilistic forecasting
  • Experience data munging and building applications which load and use data from various sources and formats

  This is a U.S. based role. If the successful candidate resides outside of the U.S., relocation will be required.
