      The Database Administrator’s main responsibility is to plan, organize, direct, participate and / or lead the design and implementation of national system changes and enhancements, a multi-layered architecture of hardware and software and communications technologies. Provide advanced specialization in one or more areas of specialization, and / or apply expertise cross-functionally.

      Job Description

      Key Accountabilities:

      • Provide technical / operational expertise and direction in one or more areas of specialization, and / or across-functionally across the organization on systems
      • Represent Own Unit or Department as a technical expert in own functional area. Champion ideas and innovations
      • Under the Manager’s directions, lead on-going life-cycle support of national system(s) in own functional area for the company nationally, developing optimum performance levels, performance monitoring, capacity assessment, data management and operating systems, availability, failure modes and recovery, security, and technical support
      • As subject-matter expert, resolve issues that require a cross-functional solution. Resolve complex interrelated application, database, operating systems, hardware problems, provide advice and guidance on technical data management and systems administrative issues to ensure maintenance of performance standards
      • Provide input to development, identification, and resolution of potential inconsistencies with current and planned policies, training, plans, architecture, policies, national technical standards, and work instructions.
      • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of new features, enhancements and special requirements, diagnostic and maintenance of / databases, and procedures of assigned systems in own functional area and / or on cross-functional basis.
      • Analyze, plan, specify, define technical requirements for new software / applications, databases to ensure current and future interoperability with NAV CANADA business systems infrastructure
      • Lead / participate in very complex or multiple complex project(s), including cross-functional projects, in the design, implementation and maintenance of system architecture for assigned systems for enhancements and meeting special requirements. This would involve conducting cost-benefit analysis, planning, organizing, directing, contributing to conceptual and physical design of the projects, participating in and leading implementation, coaching others on project management issues, and or recommending corrective actions to management

      Job Requirements

      Education:

      • Degree from a recognized university or community college with an acceptable specialization in computer science or information systems or an acceptable combination of education, experience and training
      • Oracle or MS SQL Server certification would be an asset.

      Experience:

      • A minimum of eight years of hands-on experience in supporting Oracle databases (12c/19c).
      • Must have experience in Oracle 19c, RMAN, ASM, Data Guard, OEM, Oracle DB Upgrade and Patching
      • Must have experience in Red Hat Linux Cluster
      • Minimum of one year of experience in supporting Microsoft SQL databases.
      • Experience with Microsoft Azure database service offerings and PostgreSQL would be an asset.

      Knowledge

      • Strong knowledge of administration, planning and deployment of Oracle Databases.
      • Strong knowledge of database design, performance tuning and licensing.
      • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server
      • Knowledge of cybersecurity considerations and best practices in data infrastructure and systems.

      Abilities:

      • Excellent assessment, analytical and testing skills.
      • Ability to effectively lead multiple and cross-functional complex projects.
      • Ability to identify and resolve complex and varied problems creatively and innovatively.
      • Ability to make decisions in situations where solutions are not always clearly evident.
      • Possess very good oral and written communication skills.
      • Ability to review the evaluation of operational viability of enhancements and changes as well as effectively facilitate change requests.

      Working conditions:

      • This position is based at the Ottawa Logistics Centre location is eligible for a flexible work arrangement.
      • On-Call is required for this position.
