- Design, implement, and maintain Microsoft SQL server deployments:Ensure that our SQL environments are well-managed and supported with regular upgrades.
- Capacity management and regular patching:Ensure that our databases are always up-to-date and running efficiently.
- Backup and recovery:Ensure that databases are sufficiently backed up and recoverable within RPO and RTO objectives.
- Documentation and training:Provide comprehensive documentation and training to the Server and Storage team and other stakeholders as required.
- Maintain Microsoft SQL estate: Keep the Microsoft SQL estate running to supported levels as per Microsoft's end-of-life timeframe
- Windows 2003, Windows 2008, Windows 2016
- Microsoft SQL Server 2008, 2012 & 2016 DBA
- Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server
- Highly developed specialist knowledge and expertise underpinned by significant experience working within the IM&T sector and working across Technical areas
- In depth specialist knowledge and be technically and analytically highly skilled and able to diagnose and resolve main system technical I.T. problems and analyse technical information across the NHS
- Ability to supervise staff
- Educated to master's degree level or equivalent qualification/experience along with in depth specialist knowledge of information analyis tools
- UNIX
- TOGAF qualified
- Professional IT qualification e.g. Microsoft Certified Professional qualified
- Prince 2 Foundation qualified
- Extensive experience of managing performance, integrity and security of databases
- Significant experience of working in a large organisation (more than 1000 PC's and 500 databases)
- Significant experience in specialising in support software applications
- Significant experience of trouble shooting technical and performance problems with SQL server architectures
- Experience in writing and maintaining business critical databases
- Extensive database management skills
- Proven experience of resolving urgent complex technical problems in live systems in a structured and consistent manner and in a way that minimises risk to systems, patients and staff
- Have experience of interpreting comprehensive and complex requirements and assessing appropriateness of emerging technologies and techniques
- Experience of performance tuning and optimisation SQL
- Experience of backup, restore and recovery options for SQL Server
- Extensive experience of solving computer-based systems problems at a senior level
- To work as part of the on call rota
- Car driver with a clean driving licence
- Windows 2003, Windows 2008, Windows 2016

About us
Nottinghamshire Health Informatics Service (NHIS) are an Information Management & Technology (IM&T) service provider.
We supply digital services including Infrastructure Management, Cyber Security, a full range of 1st, 2nd & 3rd Line Technical Support Services, along with Professional and Transformation services including Project Management & Training teams. NHIS are a shared service hosted by Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (SFHFT) supporting Health and Care organisations across the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care System (ICS).
We work collaboratively with our partner & customer organisations to help deliver their digital & transformational initiatives & strategies, providing expertise and knowledge gained through years of experience. We provide support to over 13,000 users at nearly 800 sites with around 150 internal dedicated staff. Our main aim is to help improve health and care services for citizens by working with organisations to improve the digital experience for the Health and Care workforce and for our local population.
