Database Administrators are responsible for establishing database management systems, standards, guidelines and quality assurance for database deliverables, such as: conceptual design, performance tuning, logical database, capacity planning, external data interface specifications, data loading plan, data maintenance plan, and security policy.
The Azure Cloud Database Administrator, is responsible for the upkeep of the Data Warehousing databases. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge and experience working with Azure Synapse, Azure Databricks, and Oracle Databases and related technologies. The candidate will have hands-on experience supporting critical databases including Cloud implementations. The DBA will be actively involved in the evaluation, review, and management of database resources and services across the organization in order to ensure that a high level of database integrity is reached and maintained.

ROLE
● Deploys and maintains Database infrastructure/objects.
● Maintains database security, integrity, and availability.
● Manages database performance and capacity.
● Provides support to the user community using incident and problem management tools.
● Develops new processes; utilizes and refines existing processes for database installation and configuration.
● Develops automation for repetitive tasks.
● Reviews performance stats and recommend changes for tuning database, server, and storage configurations, as well as application SQL.
● Updates backup and recovery processes that leverage new techniques and technology. Participates in backup audits, including restores to ensure all databases and logs are backed up.
● Works with team members to establish routine maintenance; monitoring; alerting; collecting metrics to proactively identify database related issues, and keeps all databases highly available and highly responsive at all times.
● Assumes ownership of database issues; pursues problem resolution and root cause analysis.
● Develops a strategy for migrating/upgrading to new releases and installing patches.
● Coordinates interaction with supplier(s) in critical database problem situations.
● Provides Subject Matter Expert support to the on-call DBA as needed.
● Stays current on the key facets of the applications that leverage the databases being supported.
● Learns and stays current on the features and functionality of Azure Synapse, SQL Server, Databricks, and Oracle.
● Develops a thorough knowledge and understanding of cross system interactions as well as an enterprise view of Costco’s data needs.
● Maintains detailed documentation.
REQUIRED
● Our ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge and experience working with Azure Synapse, Azure Databricks, and Oracle Databases and related technologies.
● The candidate will have hands-on experience supporting critical databases including Cloud implementations
● 5+ years’ relational database work, at least 2 years on multiple platforms.
● Hands on experience with Azure Cloud solutions - Azure Data Bricks and Azure Synapse are required skills
● Experience deploying large-scale enterprise applications.
● Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, Azure DevOps, GitHub, and Powershell scripting.
● Knowledge of Linux Operating System and networking principles.
● Strong understanding of industry best practices pertaining to Data Warehouse Databases.
● Strong troubleshooting and proactive analytical skills to ensure minimum production downtime.
● Proven ability to follow priorities, meet deadlines, and adhere to change management policies.
● Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
● Proven ability to work independently or as an integral member of a team.
● Willingness to teach/mentor others.
● Ability to work well with different staff levels within and out of core competency.
● Ability to translate highly technical solutions/problems to audiences at varying technical levels.
● Strong ability to prepare and present technical documentation.
● Ability to communicate in a professional manner when interacting across staff levels and internal/external customers.
● Understands the importance of communicating risk assessment.
● Able to support off hours24/7 on call responsibilities on a rotational basis.
Recommended
● Certification for at least one of the preferred databases: Databricks, Synapse, SQL Server, Oracle.
● Azure Admin certification.
● Knowledge of ADLS, RBAC, AAD.
● Experience implementing and managing OLTP and ODS systems.
● Well versed with all advanced features of Oracle Database technologies including HADR, CDB/PDB.
● Knowledge of DB Tools/Utilities (e.g., Toad, Oracle OEM, UC4, Shell Scripting).
● Architectural level experience in information privacy, data compliance, and risk management.
● Ability to propose creative solutions to successfully remediate identified compliance issues.
● Ability to apply agreed standards and tools to achieve a well-engineered result.
● Experience collaborating in reviews of work with others as appropriate.
● Experience training and mentoring peers.

Pay Ranges:
Level 2 - $95,000 - $130,000
Level 3 - $120,000 - $155,000
Level 4 - $145,000 - $180,000
