As the trusted technology partner, essential to the fulfillment of WCB’s strategic objectives, the Business Technology Services (BTS) division works collaboratively and creatively with our partners, to provide secure, innovative technology and data solutions that position WCB Alberta as an industry leader in Worker’s Compensation.

      Come join our Application & Cloud Services (ACS) team where you will be part of a dynamic group assisting senior staff in tactical and strategic decisions in support of business and technology initiatives at the WCB.

      Your responsibilities:

      • Research and recommend changes in the WCB database environment to provide system integrity, reliability, availability and serviceability both on-prem and in the Cloud.
      • Proactive support in improving the performance and functionality of Production database systems.
      • Administer application changes to Production database systems both on-prem and in the Cloud.
      • Advise and recommend changes to Development database systems.
      • Identify potential problems in application design as it applies to the database systems.
      • Ensure adequate backup and recovery are provided for the database management systems.
      • Administer access to the data of the database management systems.
      • Provide for any necessary Production database recoveries.
      • Identify the symptom, cause and resolution for database problems that cannot be resolved by the Help Desk or Service Providers.
      • Identify and communicate to Management the impacts of problems and resolutions.
      • Research and recommend the best solution with alternatives and associated business impacts within the guidelines of the WCB Technology Architecture
      • Receive immediate technical training through external education or through reading and understanding the technical merits.
      • Provide formal and informal education to users of the software to internal clients, Service Providers, and Help Desk staff.
      • Perform initial testing and evaluation of software products.
      • Implement software solutions in a manner that does not introduce instability to business systems.
      • Responsible for the stability and performance of the database management systems.
      • Responsible for the design of database structures to be implemented into Production applications.
      • Responsible for recommendations to management issues regarding the technology industry direction as it relates to the database system supported.
      • Determine the best resolution to a database problem. There is a requirement to participate in an on-call support rotation.
      • As an IT professional you may be contacted outside of regular business hours for response to emergency situations.

      Your experience and skills:

      • Graduation from a recognized institute of technology or university in a computer related discipline.
      • Demonstrates commitment to continuous learning and self-improvement.
      • Minimum 5 years as an information processing professional.
      • Minimum 3 years’ experience in database administration.
      • Demonstrate competency in Microsoft SQL Server version 2014 to 2022.
      • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as good client service skills.
      • Strong team player.
      • Ability to learn and adapt to new technology and processes.
      • Familiar with Microsoft Azure Fundamentals
      • Familiar with BMC’s Control-M orchestration software

      Salary: $78,409 to $107,109 per annum (includes Market Supplement; Pay Grade 11)
