- As a Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the management, security, and performance of our organization's databases.
- Your role is crucial in ensuring that our data is accessible, secure, and well-optimized for efficient use by various applications and stakeholders.
- Database Management: Create, configure, and maintain databases, ensuring they meet the organization's requirements for performance and scalability.
- Data Security: Implement and manage security measures, access controls, and encryption to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access and breaches.
- Backup and Recovery: Develop and maintain backup and recovery procedures to safeguard data integrity in case of system failures or disasters.
- Performance Tuning: Monitor database performance, identify and resolve bottlenecks, and optimize queries and database structures for optimal efficiency.
- Database Design: Collaborate with data architects and developers to design and implement effective database structures.
- User Access Control: Manage user accounts and permissions, ensuring appropriate data access based on job roles and responsibilities.
- Data Migration: Plan and execute data migration processes, ensuring data consistency and integrity during transitions.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve database-related issues, errors, and inconsistencies in a timely manner.
- Software Updates and Patching: Ensuring compliance of SQL Server versions vs security compliance / requirements.
- Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, procedures, and changes for reference and auditing purposes.
- Storage Management: Ensure database storage is used optimally and space is actively monitored and controlled.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Proven experience as a Database Administrator or in a similar role.
- Proficiency in database management systems, such as SQL Server, MySQL or PostgreSQL.
- Strong knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance tuning.
- Familiarity with database design principles and best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
- Relevant certifications (e.g. MS SQL Certified) is a plus.
- Data Management (DAMA) Certification, Certification/formal training in relevant technology
- Experience with cloud-based databases (e.g. AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database).
- Knowledge of No SQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
- Scripting and automation skills for database tasks.
- Knowledge of database containers.
- Knowledge of database architectures. (e.g. data lake house)
