      Job Summary

      Summary
      Perform activities related to the day-to-day administration and maintenance of databases, ensuring that the database(s) is available, performing properly, and safe.

      Essential Functions
      -Provides administration, technical support and troubleshooting of servers/databases.
      -Performs data integrity, backups, restores and disaster recovery.
      -Installs, creates, and configures servers/databases.
      -Conducts database performance monitoring and capacity planning.
      -Evaluates tools/products related to SQL Server database administration.
      -Performs monthly patching.
      -Provides technical consultation on operational projects.
      -Collaborates with vendor representatives as needed.

      Position Summary
      • Supports all enterprise database applications managed by DFCI Database services, including but not limited to Oracle, MySql, Microsoft SQL, OEM and supporting software.

      • Experience with Microsoft SQL from version 14 forward

      • Familiarity with Oracle SQL, RMAN, PostgreSQL, MySQL and Linux/Unix

      • Scripting experience with SQL and familiarity with shell scripting

      • Under direction of the DFCI Database Manager, provides technical support to both in-house IS staff and user departments regarding DFCI database applications

      • Provides consulting services for DFCI; work with various IS departments in the process of database integration.

      • Documents all DFCI Database processes for both internal use and for direct customer support

      • Evaluates business needs for end users and recommends solutions in accordance with DFCI/MGB database platform standards

      • Acts as a liaison between third-party vendors and end-user during implementation and
      troubleshooting issues

      • Works with other MGB IS support groups as appropriate to support and troubleshoot hardware, software, and network infrastructure issues

      • Periodic after hours and weekend work to perform tasks that cannot be done during
      business hours, this may require on-site work at times.

      • Participates in Database Site Team on-call rotation

      • All other duties as assigned.


      Qualifications

      Education
      Bachelor's Degree Information Systems preferred

      Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree?

      Experience
      database administration experience in a networked environment 2-3 years required

      Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
      - Knowledge of Operating Systems (Windows, Linux).
      - Strong knowledge of relational Database Systems.
      - Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with cross functional teams including staff at all levels of the organization including both technical and non-technical personnel.
      - Ability to multitask and prioritize work requirements.
      - Ability to understand and embrace processes.
      - Ability to successfully negotiate and collaborate with others of different skill sets, backgrounds and levels within and external to the organization.
