- Providing consultative advice on data requirements
- Developing and updating architectural framework for highly complex and confidential university-wide databases
- Analyzing and recommending suitability of major new equipment or software systems
- Leading and planning IT projects related to IBM DB2 and Azure SQL Server Managed Instance
- Planning and implementing tools and procedures to monitor database system performance
- Checking that security authorization meets University guidelines and project requirements
- Serving as a resource on specific issues to a group of specialists
- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years experience with enterprise-level DB2 administration, performance tuning and resource utilization (including day-to-day administration of DB2 databases, security, backup/recovery, capacity planning and performance tuning) which includes:
- Minimum 2 years experience withHADR option for Pacemaker-managed DB2 instances on RHEL (RedHat Enterprise Linux) or SLES (SUSE Linux Enterprise Server)
- Minimum 3 years experience with Linux shell scripts (bash or ksh) to perform day to day activities
- Experience with enterprise-level Azure SQL Server or Azure SQL Server Managed Instance, and T-SQL queries
- Experience with installation, configuration, upgrades and troubleshooting of DB2 databases
- Experience with testing and using DB2 related software to streamline tasks
- Experience with tuning applications, systems and SQL queries in conjunction with system adminstrators
- Experience with creating efficient logical and physical designs with developers for new DB2 entities and review requested changes for production.
- Experience with designing/implementing system migration procedures and creating backup/recovery procedures
- Experience with backup and restoration ofAzure SQL databases
- Experience with monitoring and optimizing the performance of cloud databases
- Experience with automating common cloud management tasks using PowerShell

About us:
The Enterprise Applications and Solutions Integration (EASI) department within the Chief Information Officer’s (CIO) Division is a central department responsible for all matters pertaining to the development, maintenance and effectiveness of the core administrative management and student systems at the U of T. Included within these responsibilities are all central SAP systems, such as Financial Services, Human Resources, Research Administration and Procurement; the central U of T Student System (ROSI); approximately 40 related vendor and specialized web applications.
Your opportunity:
Under the general direction of the Manager, DevOps, the incumbent is responsible for making database design, maintenance and operational decisions within EASI. The incumbent must ensure that the decisions coincide and follow the overall technical vision and strategy of EASI Technical Services. The incumbent is responsible for database management, technical support and monitoring of databases (application usage and resource utilization). The incumbent will liaise with developers, application/operational staff, IT project managers and other technical staff. The incumbent will be responsible for devising and implementing processes for resolving faults and data loss and writing disaster recovery plans.
