Oracle Database Performance Specialist
KnutsfordAs a Barclays Oracle Database Performance Specialist, you will work within the Database team to act as a central role to ensure Service is maintained to our Risk, Finance Treasury (RFT) Business Unit and application teams we underpin. This is an exciting opportunity working on Relational database platform technologies, being able to performance tune and pin point capacity issues across on premise and into public cloud. This role will support many strategic decisions and work with a wide range of Stakeholders in Barclays.

Hybrid Working
We are currently in the early stages of implementing a hybrid working environment, which means that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in. Please discuss the detail of the working pattern options for the role with the hiring manager.What will you be doing?
• Acting as a central contact for Risk, Finance Treasury (RFT) database performance, mentoring junior team members, and supporting stakeholders of the team
• Leading on the performance and configuration analysis of databases supporting critical RFT applications, recommending enhancements / changes to improve database performance
• Support the detailed database design and configuration for new or changed applications, partnering with RFT projects
• You will support RFT database version upgrades including reducing database technical debt
• Partnering with Database Product Management, proactively influence GTIS Database Service Offerings and Roadmaps, based on RFT strategy and requirements
• Ensuring Issues / Actions are owned and managed, and interface into the Product and Change teams to ensure issues are resolvedWhat we’re looking for:
• Experience with Oracle 11g, 12.1, 12.2 and 19c, with specific experience and strength in features, usage of AWR/ASH Reports, optimisation and performance tuning
• Good knowledge and ability to troubleshoot performance problems in database design/database code (PL-SQL)
• Ability to identify and help troubleshoot/collaborate performance problems at the database/host/environment level (storage, OS, network and other layers)
• Able to drive/identify best practices and share/document and guide technical resources on the specifics to help improve the estateSkills that will help you in the role:
• Proven track record of tracking project/engagement delivery with multiple stakeholders
• Ability to summarise/present progress on complex problems to management
• Understanding of development practices, patterns and architectures
• Ability to engage and explain problems to technical colleagues, and leadership, to drive improvementsWhere will you be working?
