Day Camp Counselor

Location: The Salvation Army Marietta Corps

About this opportunity:

Provides childcare services for children including personal care, hygiene, learning and development activities and specialized programs; plans, develops, and teaches pre-school classes; prepares and maintains records; maintains cleanliness and orderliness of childcare property.

Key responsibilities:

• Provides constant care for the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner.
• Develops and implements lesson plans which are age-group program specific; utilizes age-group appropriate discovery areas, enriched with program-specific activities, including teacher-made materials and hands-on activities.
• Determines appropriate supplies and materials for lesson plans and recreational activities; ensures the children's safety in utilizing the same.
• Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside learning activities.
• Prepares and serves children snacks and meals; ensures that children receive nutritional and tasteful food.
• Provides positive, relaxed atmosphere during children mealtime encouraging conversation.
• Organizes and supervises recreational activities; observes, monitors, and supervises children on the playground.
• Washes children’s hands and faces after morning play activities, before lunch, and again in late afternoon before parents pick up children.
• Monitors and ensures the personal hygiene of the children, including toilet assistance, diapering, etc.; adheres to sanitary procedures.
• Exhibits control of the children and when needed displays proper discipline techniques.
• Maintains the classroom materials in an orderly fashion.
• Maintains accountability for any supplies necessary for classroom programs.
• Reports all accidents to the supervisor in an accurate and timely manner.
• Prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.)
• Builds and maintains effective and positive relationships with parents; informs parents of children's progress and specific incidents.
• Follows guidelines provided on Standards of Performance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for in you:

• High school diploma or G.E.D. required
• Two years' experience teaching child development programs in a church or pre-school or,
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a normal childcare environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
