Job Description

- Supervise and monitor the assigned campers to ensure their safety and care while at day camp
- Actively engages the campers to participate and join in the daily games, crafts, projects or related daily camp activities
- Works closely with other staff members to create interesting, well balanced, organized, innovative, motivated and fun activities for the campers
- Recognizes and responds quickly to prevent rough housing and effectively discipline campers in accordance with policies
- Monitors assigned campers, in and around water pool areas to ensure their safety and to prevent accidents
- Communicates and enforces pool facility rules and regulations to all campers in order to prevent problems/injuries AND educate them about dangers of prohibited activities to promote understanding and awareness, and therefore safety
- Maintains concentrated observation of the assign campers while in pool water in order to anticipate problems and to identify an emergency quickly
- Communicates with campers and parents/guardians and others to help fulfill the above tasks
- Cleans up and assists campers in gathering up their personal items at the end of the day. Gathers garbage/debris from the pool yard area for day campers
- Performs all other job-related duties as required
- Works outdoors in adequate work space, direct sunlight, varying temperatures
- Works with above average exposure to stress and noise, but subject to frequent disruptions
- Potential exposure to hostility, violence or physical outbreaks of irate individuals
- Normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt
- Works outdoors in all weather conditions
- Must possess ability to follow instructions and pay close attention to details
- Must possess ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures and follow instructions
- Must be able to stand, run and walk intermittently for long periods throughout the workday, with occasional sitting, bending, twisting, stooping, climbing, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching and grasping or driving as necessary to carry out duties of job
- Dexterity requirements range from simple to coordinated movements of fingers/hands; feet/legs; torso necessary to carry out duties of job
- Medium work, with frequent lifting/carrying of objects weighing from 25 -50 pounds; occasionally lifts 100 pound
- Must demonstrate emotional stability
- Must be able to compute simple math calculations
- Must be able to move frequently throughout the work day
- EDUCATION/TRAINING
- Must be able to speak and understand the English language in order to carry out essential job duties
- Must possess ability to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with vendors, co-workers and others
- Must possess basic knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions and the ability to exercise skill in the responding and preventing accidents
- Must possess ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Must be able to thoroughly aware and able to apply pool rules and regulations
- Knowledge and understanding of job responsibilities to the County, the public and fellow co-workers
- Must be able to interact and communicate with people
COUNTY OF GREENE JOB VACANCY
DEPARTMENT: PARKS AND RECREATION
Position: Day Camp Counselor (Seasonal/Non-Exempt)
Salary: $10/hour Level 1 (1st Year)
$11/hour Level 2 (Returning)
Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00p.m.
6 weeks in June and July
Monday - Friday

OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB
To supervise and actively engage the children who are part of the day camp program through games, crafts, projects, and related camp activities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Receives daily instruction and ongoing supervision in regard to daily work duties from Supervisor. Works occasionally at site independently and consult supervisor only as needed

QUALIFICATIONS
High school student or diploma plus experience in the child care, babysitting, CPR/AED and Standard First Aid.
PA ChildLine Clearance, PA State Police and FBI Fingerprint clearances are REQUIRED.
