- Plans, develops, implements, administers, and evaluates student centered support programs in the division including, but not limited to: Student Equity Plan, Academic Success and Tutoring Center, Athletic Academic Mentor Program, First Year Experience, Early Alert Referral Program, Puente Project, Dreamer Resources, Black Student Cultural Center, A2Mend Chapter, IMANI Sisterhood, AANHPI Student Achievement Program, Community College Pathway to Law School and Medical School Programs, Black Falcon Success Program, and the LGBTQ+ Pride Center.
- Manages the programs, policies and procedures related to the Office of Student Life, including Associated Students and InterClub Council, Basic Needs Center, Early Alert Referral Program, Wellness Center, and Commencement Ceremony and pre-commencement recognition ceremonies.
- Provides campus-wide leadership for the development of equity and student success goals and initiatives, ensuring an equity-mindset is applied throughout design, implementation, evaluation and assessment processes; leads the implementation of the SEA Plan and builds support for college-wide efforts to close equity gaps, increases student success, and identify and mitigate organizational biases with an emphasis on disproportionately impacted student populations.
- Provides leadership that promotes an equitable, service oriented, positive working environment and a high level of morale among all staff within the division; hires, trains, supervises , evaluates, and supports the professional development of regular and temporary classified staff; analyzes division staffing needs and makes recommendations to the Vice President of Student Services.
- Manages the programs, services and staff within Student Life, including Associated Students and Inter-Club Council; identifies and creates opportunities to capture student voices and nurture student engagement in campus-wide activities, governance committees, equity-focused initiatives, and cultural and social programming.
- Leads campus-wide engagement to ensure the college provides culturally responsive programming to meet the needs of students; liaises with campus departments and programs to provide high profile campus events that promote equity and inclusion, provide institutionalized trainings for faculty and staff to become champions for the work of student equity and completion, and enhance a diverse and inclusive campus environment; works collaboratively with the Director of Marketing and Communications to coordinate student services publications, promotions, and digital content;
- Cultivates and maintains strategic partnerships with community organizations and agencies to enhance student access, retention, completion, and sense of belonging, fostering collaborative initiatives that support student success and promote equity and inclusion.
- Acts as the college's Student Conduct Officer, overseeing the student conduct/discipline process within an equity and restorative justice framework; serves as the primary contact for alleged violations, educates students on conduct standards, and ensures compliance with policies; coordinates timely resolution of disciplinary matters and grievances, conducts meetings and hearings, and provides training on relevant procedures for faculty, staff, and students. C ollaborates with the college’s Behavioral Intervention Team to evaluate and assist students in crisis.
- Manages financial resources strategically to meet institutional equity goals, optimizing unrestricted and categorical funding; oversees divisional budget development, monitoring, and reconciliation; coordinates student support services budgets and grants; identifies funding priorities to address equity gaps and seeks additional resources through grants; allocates funds judiciously for divisional needs and communicates priorities clearly to relevant departments.
- Remains current on legislation and regulations affecting service area; adheres to regulatory guidelines and reporting deadlines for relevant programs and services; adjusts program and/or service delivery to assure compliance as required; manages contractual elements and reporting requirements for relevant federal, state, local and private grants.
- Works collaboratively with campus departments, including Research and Planning, to facilitate assessment, planning, and evaluation efforts to mitigate identified disparities; understands current research and applies data to address barriers, including both qualitative and quantitative data, to support systemic initiatives that improve student experiences, access to resources, and educational goal completion.
- Administers Title IX compliance and non-discrimination policies as Title IX Coordinator; develops, recommends, and implements related policies and ensures compliance with state civil rights legislation. Investigates and resolves complaints of sexual harassment and discrimination; allocates resources for affected parties, ensures impartial and timely investigations, and trains employees to report discrimination while educating staff and students on prevention and awareness.
- Participates in and supports the college’s integrated planning processes; engages in student outcomes assessments and accountability; meets accreditation standards; and prioritizes resource, staffing, and technology support for department programs and services.
- Maintains active membership in relevant professional associations and attend relevant conferences, trainings and institutes to remain current in emerging trends.
- Makes recommendations to the college’s executive team regarding improvements to college policies, processes, procedures, and practices pertaining to student outcomes, completion goals, and elimination of equity gaps.
- Collaborates with Student Services staff and Vice President in support of the alignment and integration of student services with instructional services to strengthen the delivery of student equity and support programs.
- Serves as an active member of the college administrative leadership team to address college-wide issues, budgeting, planning, and development; serves on committees, workgroups and project teams as either a facilitator, partner, or participant to help guide and implement equity and student completion-related initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Student Services.
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in education, higher education administration, social and behavioral sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum of one (1) year of professional experience, preferably in a higher education setting, with evidence of increasing levels of responsibility.
- Three (3) years of professional experience, preferably in a higher education setting, with evidence of increasing levels of responsibility.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in developing and implementing student equity programs and initiatives, e.g. basic needs, wellness and mental health, academic tutoring and support, etc.
- Strong knowledge of policy and practices that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility within a higher education context.
- Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.
- Proven ability to lead and manage diverse student populations, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment.
- Experience in supervising staff, including training and mentoring.
- Experience working directly with students and promoting their success, well-being and sense of belonging.
- Knowledge of student development theory and best practices in student programming and governance.
- Strong ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with campus partners, including administrators, faculty, staff, student organizations, and external organizations.
- Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating student equity and success activities that promote an inclusive campus environment and support student recruitment, retention, and success.
- Experience using data analysis to assess program effectiveness and inform improvements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively represent the program and college at public events.
- Proficiency in creating and coordinating outreach and publicity materials, including multi-media approaches.
- Experience managing budgets for student engagement programs and activities.
- Ability to oversee fiscal management of district and categorical funds.
Under the direction of the Vice President of Student Services, the Dean of Student Equity and Success will serve as the dynamic leader to build student engagement and completion through a range of equity-focused programs, services, and initiatives; establish a shared vision for providing systemic access, support, and opportunities to underrepresented and underserved student populations; provide innovative leadership and student-centered customer service that demonstrates understanding of Solano’s mission and the diverse students we serve; and promote a culture of inclusion, belonging, and student engagement.
This role encompasses the design, administration, and assessment of initiatives tailored to promote the academic, social, and personal growth of students who reflect the incredible diversity of Solano County and our surrounding communities. The Dean will supervise and coordinate department planning and operations; development and management of budgets and personnel; review and evaluation of assigned programs and services, including relevant policies and procedures; data-centric decision making focusing on student outcomes and the reduction of equity gaps; and implementation and monitoring of non-instructional program review, including development and assessment of service area outcomes for all programs supervised.
The Dean plays a crucial role in cultivating an anti-racist, culturally responsive, and inclusive campus environment, where diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are intrinsic to the college's identity. Serving as a steadfast advocate for student equity in the broader landscape of higher education, the Dean prioritizes nurturing the cultural competency of students, faculty, and staff. Central to this role is the cultivation of empathetic relationships and the demonstration of racial literacy, particularly in interactions with students of color, faculty, and staff.
