Job Description
This person will be primarily responsible for assisting the investigative department with daily
clerical tasks such as data entry of cremation permits, requesting records for Medical Examiner
cases, uploading received records into our database, and calling funeral homes/crematories to
coordinate the release of bodies. The assistant will be responsible for releasing the decedents and
their personal property to funeral home staff while providing courteous, high-quality service.Work Schedule
Part time hours during Mon-Fri: 8:00am-5:00pm, rotating weekends
Requirements
Knowledge of rules and regulations as they pertain to the Medical Examiner’s Office
including company policies and procedures
• Knowledge of safety procedures and universal precautions for handling
bloodborne/airborne pathogens, decomposition, and disease
• Ability to operate a computer, printer, facsimile machine, photocopier machine, and
scanner
• Knowledge of customer service
• Appropriate telephone and email etiquette
• Accurate typing skills and computer proficiency are necessary
• Ability to carry/lift 100-200 pounds with assistance
• Ability to operate a mechanical lift for the shelving and removing of bodies within the
morgue coolersMinimum Qualifications:
• Must be 21 years of age or older
• Required to successfully pass a background investigation including a criminal record
check and a drug test
• Must be in possession of a valid driver’s license
• Required to work both as an effective team member and independently within the scope
of this position
• Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and via email
Education/Experience Required:
• High School Diploma
o Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, criminal justice, or
related fields are preferred
• Past work in mortuary science, clerical duties, EMT/EMS background, criminal
justice/law enforcement system, or related business is preferredCity
