Job summary
St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Tooting, South London, is a large teaching hospital with our maternity unit providing care to over 5000 women and birthing people each year.
We take great pride in promoting midwifery by delivering holistic woman-centred care to our diverse local community. The enthusiastic midwifery and obstetric teams work together to meet the specific needs of women who come from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. Our Delivery Suite has an HDU with a dedicated multi-disciplinary team that are responsible for supporting staff in caring for women with more complicated care plans.
We strive to normalise the pregnancy and birth experience for women and birthing people with both high and low risk pregnancies, excelling in the provision of high risk care for all who need it.
Are you an RN with in- or outpatient experience and want to expand your knowledge in Maternity HDU care? We have an opportunity for you to work with us for 12 months on our Delivery Suite HDU.
If you have a keen interest in women's care and can be relied upon to work well in a team whilst showing initiative and independence, we would be pleased to hear from you.
You will be providing excellent nursing care in the obstetric high dependency unit (OHDU) and working alongside midwives in the care of acutely unwell women and birthing people. You will actively participate in and contribute to the organisation and functioning of the OHDU.
Main duties of the job
Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care, utilisingresearch findings as appropriate, working in conjunction with midwives in the OHDU and labour ward in the care of women requiring level 1 and level 2 dependency.To provide a high and safe standard of patient care.Ensuring that nursing procedures are carried out in accordance with StGeorge's Healthcare policy taking appropriate action in emergencysituations.Setting, monitoring and maintaining excellent standards of nursing care in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team.Maintaining personal contact with patients, relatives and carers, beingsensitive to their needs for courtesy, dignity and privacy and ensuring afriendly environment at all times.Storing, checking and administering drugs including the intravenous route in accordance with Trust policy and NMC standards.To work with minimal supervision in all areas of the speciality as required.Communicating with and assisting the multidisciplinary team to promoteexcellence in the delivery of patient care.
To prioritise own workload and that of other staff ensuring that the ward or department is managed effectively.
