Job Description:

Description: The Dental Hygienist performs preventive dental and hygiene services including chair-side instruction and patient education in the prevention and control of dental disease.

Typical Duties:

1. Cleans teeth and places sealants on teeth using approved dental prophylactic techniques and procedures as prescribed by the American Dental Association.


2. Conducts educational programs for the prevention of dental diseases in children and adults.


3. Prepares patient and operatory for dental procedures, which include obtain vital signs, X-ray and x-ray developing.


4. Serves as Safety and Infection Control Officer for assigned clinic informing staff of current safety and infection control methods.


5. Monitors and evaluates programs and services in adherence to the CHC dental program standards, OSHA standards, TJC, local ordinances, and state and federal laws applicable to assigned dental clinic.


6. Interacts with internal and external customers with courtesy and respect expressing compassion and concern and projects a desire to be of service.


7. Improves and facilitates patient access to the dental clinics.


8. Utilizes computer to input access data and may assist with reception desk duties.


9. Answers the telephone; receives and relays messages as appropriate and confirms next day patient appointments.


10. Performs basic equipment maintenance.


11. Maintains and continues professional growth and skill development by attending and participating in workshops, seminars and/ or other continuous education programs; provides a copy of certificate of attendance for verification.


12. Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:
• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
• Graduation from an accredited Dental Hygiene Program.

Preferred Education and Experience:
• Post-secondary Dental Assistant education/training or equivalent experience.

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
• Texas State Board License

Preferred Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
• Current JPS recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) and radiological certification; may be obtained subsequent to hire.
