      Main duties of the job

      An opportunity has arisen within the Maxillofacial Outpatient Department at University Hospitals Southampton for a Part-Time (20hrs) Dental Nurse (Band 4 Registered Dental Nurse). We are looking for a highly motivated, flexible qualified Dental Nurse who can demonstrate a dedication to quality care and provide high standards of dental nursing.

      The applicant must be qualified and Registered with the GDC with proven skills in Dental Nursing. Ideally, the candidate will have experience in Oral Surgery nursing. The post holder will be part of a team providing skilled dental nurse support in a busy Maxillofacial Department in an Acute Hospital Setting.

      The clinics we provide are held on the main hospital site and include Head & Neck oncology, Skin Cancer diagnosis and treatment, Facial Trauma and Orthognathic Surgery. We are a small team of 6 Consultants, 8 Dental Nurses and 1 Associate Nurse Practitioner, along with junior staff. The post holder will act as a source of expertise and knowledge for the patients, junior staff and the wider multidisciplinary team.

The department is open from 08.00 - 17.00hrs Monday - Friday, but with a changing healthcare, demands may change to include occasional evening and weekend work.       The Dental Nurse will work as part of the Dental Nurse Team.

      The Dental Nurse ensures patients and carers are received in a calm, courteous and reassuring manner and prepares them to undergo treatment.

      The Dental Nurse assists the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in Professional and Technical skills and assists members of the multidisciplinary team in the supervision of the patient until they are fit to leave the department.

      The Dental Nurse may be asked to take on an additional role to support key links. This post is linked to the moving and handling link role.
