- Provide strategic vision and leadership for developing, implementing, and evaluating PHPP-TR education, service and research programs aligned with College, UAHS and UArizona strategic plans.
- Encourage collegial collaboration, and assure faculty, student and staff recruitment, development, and promotion.
- Enhance PHPP-TR research, teaching, and service missions.
- Oversee the finances, space allocations, operations, evaluations and personnel in the Department/Division.
- Supervise faculty and staff, conduct annual performance evaluations, and administer merit-based salary increases.
- Maintain a positive, productive climate for faculty, staff, and students.
- Represent the Division/Department interests to College, UAHS and UArizona administration.
- Develop and teach PHPP-TR graduate and undergraduate level courses; advise and mentor Masters and Doctoral students.
- Work with UAHS Development and UArizona Foundation on donor and alumni support for PHPP-TR programs.
- Administer PHPP-TR programs in accordance with the UArizona and College Inclusive Excellence Programs.
- Promote PHPP-TR education, research and service programs in regional, national, and international arenas.
- Seek and secure external research funding; engage in individual and collaborative research.
- Additional duties may be assigned by the Dean.
- An earned doctorate (PhD, DrPH, MD, or equivalent terminal degree) in public health practice, public health policy, health services research or related field.
- Distinguished record of achievement in scholarship, research, and/or instruction commensurate with an appointment at the rank of Full Professor with tenure.
- Leadership experience in developing and managing innovative education and community engagement programs.
- A strong track record in teaching and mentoring junior faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students.
- Demonstrated interest and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Documented sustained scholarly accomplishments with high-quality publications and research funding support.

MEZCOPH is one of the five UArizona Health Sciences (UAHS) Colleges.
We seek an exceptional, community-oriented leader with established expertise in public health practice, policy and management and translational research. The ideal candidate is a transformational, visionary leader, demonstrating innovative approaches for department development and is expected to lead productive, collaborative funded research initiatives; teach undergraduate and graduate public health courses; provide mentorship; and create partnerships and advance service initiatives. Our diverse PHPP-TR faculty, staff and students engage in many areas including conducting health services and outcomes research; analyzing, formulating and informing health policies at the institutional, state, national and international levels; teaching health organization management and leadership skills; evaluating needs and programs; collaborating, conducting and publishing research - clinical, telehealth, epidemiology, border, tribal and community health, health disparities, and community-based participatory research. We are passionately committed to preparing our students for leadership roles in the public and private sectors to create, manage, and implement policies that promote the public’s health.
The Division/Department has three concentrations across two (Phoenix, Tucson) campuses (1) Public Health Practice, (2) Public Health Administration, and (3) Public Health Policy and Management. PHPP-TR is responsible for its MPH, dual MPH/MD, and DrPH degree programs and undergraduate teaching.

The Phoenix campus is in the heart of downtown Phoenix near the state health department, the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS), Arizona’s Medicaid agency – the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), and the Capitol building where the state legislature meets each year. It is co-located with the Phoenix Bioscience Core, a premier, dynamic milieu for innovative academics, research, clinical activities and community engagement.
The Tucson campus is located at the University of Arizona Health Sciences, just north of the UArizona main campus, nestled among key education facilities including the Banner University Medical Center – Tucson, the Health Sciences Innovation Building, and Drachman Hall that houses the Mel & Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health.
