      The Deputy City Marshal provides law enforcement and proactive crime prevention to ensure the public is protected. Deputy Marshal’s work in a patrol capacity to enforce quality of life issues and ensure compliance with State laws and City ordinances. Deputy Marshal’s are assigned to the following units within the Marshal’s office: Park Patrol, Environmental Crimes Unit, Homeless Action Response Team, and Warrant Team.
      1. Conduct law enforcement duties within the City of Dallas including parks, trails and water way levees.
      2. Arrest and detain suspects involved in criminal activity.
      3. Respond to 911 calls within geographic area of responsibility.
      4. Issue citations for class “C” misdemeanor offenses and traffic violations.
      5. Serve and execute warrants of arrests, subpoenas and other legal processes generated by the Municipal Court or any municipal entity; participates in obtaining evidence for court proceedings.
      6. Transports and books into jail all subjects arrested on Dallas warrants in surrounding cities to ensure safety to citizens and property.
      7. Provides appropriate testimony as subpoenaed through the State, County or City Courts and applies proper courtroom techniques, rules of evidence, and procedures to ensure the integrity of the criminal justice system.
      8. Researches, investigates, and reviews warrants and wanted subjects for the execution of arrest warrants.
      9. Participates in various special assignments and operations as needed.
      10. Works cooperatively with other local and state law enforcement agencies.
      11. Maintains state mandated training for Peace Officers. officers regarding policies, procedures, and practices of state and federal laws. Communicates professionally with other city departments and general public.
      12. Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
      EDUCATION:
      • High school diploma or GED.
      LICENSING EXAM:
      • Must have passed the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Peace Officer Licensing exam OR
      • Must be enrolled in a state accredited law enforcement academy and be within 90 days of taking the TCOLE exam.
      LICENSE:
      • Valid driver's license with good driving record.
      OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
      • Must pass an intensive background investigation.
      • Must pass polygraph, psychological testing, and drug screening.
      • No FELONY or Class A MISDEMEANOR convictions.
      • No Class B MISDEMEANORS within the last ten (10) years.
      • Availability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.

      Knowledge and Skills

      1. Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
      2. Ability to pass physical defensive tactics training.
      3. Knowledge of rule of evidence procedures.
      4. Knowledge of state laws and city ordinances.
      5. Knowledge of Texas Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedures, and all aspects of law enforcement practices.
      6. Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
      7. Ability to deal effectively with the public under adverse conditions.
      Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
      The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.

      For evaluation purposes, acceptable qualifying experience for all positions must have been in a paid capacity unless noted otherwise in the minimum qualifications for the posted position.

      Additionally, 30+ hours per week will be counted as full-time employment and will receive full credit for the amount of time employed. A minimum of 15 through 29 work hours per week will be counted as part-time employment and will receive half credit for the amount of time employed.

      Working Conditions & Hazards:
      - Exposed to all weather conditions.
      - Exposed to habitual violators, belligerent, hostile, and uncooperative prisoners and suspects.
      - Subject to obscene verbal and physical injury.
      - May be exposed to contagious diseases and individuals with other physical or psychological illnesses or drug induced behavior from contact with the public and/or suspects.
      - Not alerted in advance of the physical and psychological condition of prisoners being transported back to the City of Dallas.
