      Job Description

      NBC News Digital is looking for a deputy director to join its platforms team in New York. The director will play a central role in the daily management and publishing of our homepage and app, helping drive and shape NBC News’ coverage for millions of readers.

      This is a leadership role with a focus on front-line editing and production. The deputy director will lead the team’s coverage of breaking news and will be in the nitty-gritty of daily curation and publishing, ensuring NBC News’ platforms are always on top of the news and reflect the urgency and breadth of the organization's reporting.

      The ideal candidate is a strong editor with excellent news judgment. They’ll be able to identify the hook into a story and write headlines and alerts to match. The role requires accuracy and speed under tight deadlines. Experience and comfort working under pressure, and an ability to remain focused and organized during breaking news is essential.

      This is a full-time management position, Mon-Fri, and based in New York.

      Key tasks:

      • Direct the curation and publishing of NBC News’ homepage, app, and section pages.
      • Work closely with news and platforms editors to execute on breaking news, feature rollouts and live events, such as elections.
      • Write and edit sharp, accurate and engaging copy, including headlines, alerts, social and newsletter copy.
      • Day-to-day planning for owned platforms, including site leads and app alerts.
      • Manage and coach editors, while providing leadership for the entire team.
      • Think strategically and analyze real-time analytics to inform story curation and distribution.
      • Work with the photo team to illustrate stories on desktop and app.

      Qualifications

      Qualifications:

      • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and comparable work experience
      • 8+ years' experience in a digital newsroom, preferably with experience publishing owned and social platforms
      • A broad knowledge of current affairs, including politics, race, social justice, international affairs, pop culture and sports
      • Must be comfortable working in a hybrid work environment and collaborating in a creative but demanding environment under tight deadlines

      Additional Requirements:

      • Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
