- Assessing and developing strategies to ensure the City meets operational goals and objectives, while remaining in compliance with all laws, regulations, and standards.
- Leveraging resources and partnerships throughout the region to accommodate rapid growth while preserving a connected community.
- Collaborating with departments, elected officials, and stakeholders to align financial strategies with City goals and policies.
- Collaborating on fiscal challenges and long-term planning of service expansion and enhancements.
- Creating an environment of trust and ethical management of city resources.
- Encouraging actions and decisions that align with the City’s values of integrity, accountability, commitment to service, and being welcoming.
- Assisting the Finance Director in carrying out the functional and operational responsibilities of the department.
- Leading the biennial financial planning process; projects revenues and expenditures, recommends rates, establishes the process and timeline for the budget cycle, and makes recommendations on balancing the budget.
- Acting as a City representative on regional committees, evaluating region wide issues for fiscal and policy impacts.
- Monitoring and managing taxation processes, assessing revenue streams, and exploring avenues for revenue enhancement.
- Providing operational, budgetary, and capital fund management advice to all levels of management; acts as liaison to resolve interdepartmental fiscal issues.
- Preparing presentation material on recommendations; presents budget related reports, fiscal analysis recommendations and study findings to the Mayor, Council, Director’s Team, and the general public; responds to a wide variety of fiscal issues.
- Directing activities of employees performing citywide fiscal and policy-based analysis and recommendations; assigns and evaluates work, monitors progress, revises procedures and work approaches to improve effectiveness.
- Seven (7) years progressive experience in performing complex financial analysis
- Three (3) years in a management or supervisory capacity, with advanced leadership knowledge
- High school diploma or equivalent, bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred
- Certifications or licenses in field of expertise preferred,
- Municipal experience in public sector budgeting, communications, and internal auditing preferred
- Or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Valid Washington State Driver's License and a driving record that meets city standards
- Must submit to an extensive background check.
- Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Some travel is required among various city facilities, as well as some outside travel.

The City of Redmond, WA, is seeking a Deputy Finance Director to join our team. This is a highly visible role that requires candor, confidence, and diplomacy. As the Deputy Finance Director, you will oversee departmental operations in line with established city goals and objectives, as well as lead all financial planning and analysis, including forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow management. You will be responsible for managing the biennial operating and capital budget process, preparing annual financial statements, and monitoring procurement, accounts payable, utility billing, and the treasury to ensure the financial health and needs of the city.
