      The purpose of this position is to manage the day-to-day operations of City parks, recreation centers, pool, boat rental facility, and greenway. This is primarily accomplished by managing projects, supervising staff, developing the annual budget, and promoting the City.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

      • Administers the daily and periodic functions of the departments.
      • Manages construction projects by conducting regular meetings with consultants, other city departments, and contractors.
      • Makes recommendations to the Director regarding design and construction issues.
      • Supervises staff by prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring staff are trained and follow policies and procedures, maintaining a healthy and safe working environment, and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
      • Assists in developing the annual budget by monitoring and approving expenditures within established guidelines.
      • Meets with organizations to resolve issues, develop partnerships, and promote the City.

      Knowledge:

      • Recreation principles and practices
      • Facility maintenance equipment
      • Budget practices and processes
      • Horticulture, turf, irrigation, and/or forestry
      • Construction principles and practices
      • Applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations
      • Project management principles
      • Program management

      Licensing and Certifications:

      • North Carolina Driver’s license.

      Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

      • Positions in this class require: standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, fine dexterity, handling, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, lifting, carrying, vision, foot controls.
      • Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly AND/OR walking or standing to a significant degree.
      • Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperature.
