The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office is actively seeking qualified applicants for the position of Patrol Deputy. This is to fill two current positions and build a hiring list for upcoming retirements. The primary responsibilities and skills include, but are not limited to:

• Patrols county rural areas in the prevention and detection of crime.
• Responds to calls for assistance from the public involving criminal and non-criminal activities.
• Responds to all life threatening situations and renders necessary aid.
• Gathers evidence from investigations, files reports with the department and testifies in court on related matters.
• Skill in the use of firearms and defensive tactics.
• Familiarity with the geographic make-up of Goodhue County.

GCSO has an active Mental Wellness Program. We also work with Lodestar Psychology and Consulting to provide “Neck Up Check Ups” as well as up to six individual sessions. A Peer Support and Chaplain program also provide resources in-house.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minnesota POST licensed as a full-time peace officer or able to obtain by date of hire.
• Thorough knowledge of the laws of city, county and federal governments as well as arrest procedures, search and seizure, and other functions of a peace officer.

Qualified applicants will also be able to pass a thorough background investigation and possess a valid driver’s license.

Compensation & Benefits
The Patrol Deputy position is compensated at salary grade 112 of the Goodhue County pay scale. Base patrol pay $33.48-$51.90/hr ($69,638- $107,952 annually).

The County's comprehensive benefit package includes medical, dental and vision insurance, health savings account, employer paid life insurance, short and long term disability insurance, accident insurance, pre-tax flexible spending accounts, retirement plan, tax-deferred compensation, generous vacation and sick leave and 13 paid holidays per year. Each deputy is assigned their own squad which can be taken home for county residents. County employees are eligible for the Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. This is a LELS union local 91 position.
